Gotcha. I really think she looks a lot like the sketch, but my main concern is her height. Is it 5'2", or 5'5"? 5'5" seems kind of tall, based on the UID info. Other than that, though, I think she's a great find.

We are fortunate we have a open mouth smile. Dr D should be able to gleem whether or not she in a contender.

  • #1,283
I think the open mouth smile will be an easy comparison. She does look fairly similar to the sketch, the only thing is I think she has very pretty teeth that from the photo look to be in good condition, and if I remember correctly smurfettes were said to be in poor condition(someone please correct me if I am wrong, it's been a while since I have gone over the statistics on smurfette!) but just because they are pretty on the outside doesn't mean dental X-rays won't show something different. I am definitely passing this information along to Dr. D the only other thing that is a bit off is the missing date as smurfette was thought to be deceased by this time.

According to her stats, she'd had previous dental work, but had not seen a dentist recently. Some cavities had worn away most of her enamel.
Side note: I defintely see a strong overbite in Meleny's picture.

The estimated death is prior 3 weeks to Oct 16. If my calculation is correct that would be Sept 25. Definitely a close call but possible. Waiting on Dr. D's expertise.

I haven't looked at namus in a while but isn't her postmortem interval 3-6 weeks? Anywho, Dr. D suspects smurfette likely died in the first or second week of September.

Okay if I remember correctly there is no namus for Meleny? Anyone find a FB account? I will go through my email and check out what link you have there. I am hoping she will be able to do something with this, I am intrigued!

Nice find!

Jasmine Jennings. Biracial black and white. Also may be in need of medical attention.

Her listed weight seems like she would be too heavy to be our Smurfette, but she could have lost weight since she went missing. It could as well be inaccurate. If the unknown medical condition is a eating disorder then that could also contribute. JMO

Just a note to say that I still think about Smurfette a lot and I still do random searches for her.

On a nice note, if anyone remembers me going on about Rosa Sanchez as a possible match, I have just found out that she and her sisters were found safe in December 2013, having been missing since 2004. :)

Oh that's good news!

I found a girl from our area who's a dead ringer for the reconstruction -- but she was found more or less safe last month. Alive, anyway.

Check out this article (a little off topic) from The Police News in Galveston.

Man from Conroe was busted online by an undercover officer posing as an underage girl, the Conroe man is claiming there is also a Port of Galveston police officer involved. I am located in Galveston and know many people that work at the port, I've been down there a few times as I have immediate family working for the port. What a scary thought, it's sounding like the Conroe man was bringing girls to Galveston to the port police officer, I guess I might want to add there are trucks that come from all over the US to deliver/pick up from the port, also ships. I wonder how big of an operation this may be. I wouldn't be surprised if this turned into a sex trafficking case.

Certainly sounds like it could be...I hope not! I mean I hope it's not a ring -- if it is, I hope they bust it and stomp the pieces clear down to bedrock.

I hope not too. But trafficking at a port, genius idea. Sick people.

Bugs me there is no COD for smurfette, I still can't help but wonder if she was a victim of human trafficking.

  • #1,294
Most of the traffic at a port is poor women coming in from places like Russia and the poor east European countries.

I recommend Tess Gerritsen's novel Vanish for a look at a lot of the things we're dealing with. Excellent story, too.

Yeah, I think there's a good chance Smurfette came from somewhere else and was just thrown aside when they were done with her. :(

I have seen a lot of missing girls from out of the country that look very similar, I have always discounted them because I figured it would be almost impossible for them to get from there to here.

Smurfette being found fully clothed made me think less of the possibility she was a victim of sex trafficking, but maybe she was a victim of like regular trafficking. JMO

This was my original thought too, however she is in the perfect age range for sex trafficking, when taken these girls are filled with drugs..I think she could have been a victim of sex trafficking, maybe she was a newbie and someone accidentally overdosed her. My theory was that if she was a victim of rape and murder she likely wouldn't have had any clothes on, but had she been a victim of sex trafficking and died at the hands of her keepers(I hate the word pimp) I'm not sure she would've been left nude. Also, I'm not saying just because someone is left nude means they are a victim of rape, a lot of killers strip their victims of their belongings to make it harder to identify them.

Who is this girl???!!

Hi everyone! I haven't disappeared either. Not a day goes by that smurfette doesn't cross my mind. I just noticed, that Tamara Elbertson now has a Namus page. I remember that Lyssav had submitted her, and if i recall, Dr. Derrick hadn't mentioned anything about her. Even in Namus, it also notes a droopy left eye in her description. I still wonder about her as a possibility??

I can't find much on this girl - Saquoya Gerald. The first link has a good photo, with teeth, is that an overbite? On the second link, it seems the photo has been removed which makes me wonder if she was found. What caught my eye is that she was believed to travelling to Houston with her Dad. She is on the older side, 18 in 2012. Height and weight are a good match but that was in 2007. Anyway, I couldn't quite ignore this girl for some reason.
