Lyssav, do you know when a second facial reconstruction/sketch will be released?

Not sure yet. Dr. Derrick should be emailing me back about Tamera, so I will ask her then if she knows when the approximation will be done.

Do we have this girl? Daisha Lawson missing from Tulsa in April 2012: https://www.findthemissing.org/en/cases/18747/6/.

Lyssav called her in a few weeks ago. It didn't pan out because Lawson has been in contact with her family since she disappeared.

Thanks. I thought I had seen her name here, but didn't find it on a quick search last night :p

She is still up on NAMUS.

Were any of you following the Tempe AZ case? NamUs posted her as 15-19, but she ended up being 23! Makes me wonder about Smurfette.......

Dr. Derrick seems very confident about the age range given, and if not in the age range of 15-17 she expects her to be younger rather than older. However, we have gone through a lot of the youngin's, and its hard for me to believe that someone under the age of 18 hasn't been reported missing

I don't find that so hard to believe. In fact, I am pretty certain that she is not reported missing, and that we won't find her in any of the public listings.

Of course, if that is true, there would be a pretty good chance that the perpetrator(s) turn out to be abusive parents.

I agree if that is the case, which sounds likely considering the malnutrition. But there isn't someone else in the childs life that misses them or realizes that they are missing?? An aunt or uncle, grandparent, family friend, or even a neighbor?? Could a parent really keep a child a secret for years and years?

Hi, I have been lurking on this thread for some time now. I'm afraid that I have been thinking the same as Carl for most of that time, but I wanted to believe that one of the many similar young ladies that you guys have been finding would be a match. IMHO the malnutrition is a massive red flag indicating an abusive background, and given her age and the fact that she remains unidentified, it is likely that it was her family/guardians who were the abusers.

The shirt is the thing that doesn't seem to fit here. It is a shirt that you could imagine a typical carefree teen to choose. Its playful and fun, and doesn't seem to fit with the image in my mind of a girl who was suffering so badly. Then again, perhaps I am reading too much into it and it was just a slogan that made her smile...

The Topix connection piqued my interest too. If this was a brand new T Shirt that wasn't cheap - how did Smurfette get it? Would her abusers really buy her new clothes? Could she have somehow bought it herself and if so how did she get the money? Or was it just secondhand?

I do feel that Smurfette will probably be reported missing one day. I agree with Lyssav that it would be unlikely that they could have kept her existence a secret all that time. The fact that she had that T Shirt says to me that she wasn't living a life in complete captivity, as I don't believe that her abusers would have bought it for her. Somebody will miss her - a friend or another relative will have wondered what happened to her. I bet that her abusers have told them that she has gone away to stay with someone or another similar excuse. One day, they will become suspicious and wonder why she never returned or made contact with them and hopefully they will look for her.

Perhaps her abusers will one day get arrested for something else and this will raise a red flag for someone who is missing Smurfette.

So many questions and no answers. Lets hope the answers come sooner rather than later.

Or an older boyfriend. Or she's a runaway who got dragged and drugged into prostitution and then beaten to death by her pimp, which I think is probably the most likely. None of them likely to report her missing.

Welcome to the conversation! This is some great input, thank you!

I agree, if she was a victim of abusive parents, why would they take the time to buy her clothes that are sold at pricey stores like hot topic?

If she is as young as I think she might be (12-13) it's possible the clothes she was wearing aren't even her own. Maybe they dressed her older to throw off LE.
Also puberty can be delayed due to malnourishment which makes the bra size seem odd if she is as young as 12 or 13 and is malnourished.

Although the more I research, I think it could be a medical condition.
Turners Syndrome sounds like it could be a good possibility.

Thank you for allowing me to leap straight into the conversation! BTW, I obviously meant Hot Topic (Doh!)!

I still feel that it is most probable that Smurfette was abused by her parents/guardians. Since we are talking about a girl under the age of 18, who has turned up dead, with signs of malnutrition and no missing persons report, there is a very limited amount of scenarios that could apply to her.

If Smurfette was abused by a boyfriend/pimp or was a runaway, than I wonder why her family haven't reported her missing. The only scenario I can think of that make this possible is if Smurfette was in fact 18+ and had been brought up in foster care and had left it (hence no missing report) and then fell in with a bad boyfriend or something.

I also feel that Smurfette is likely from a fairly local area. At the end of the day, the sad truth is that dumping a body far away to avoid detection is not really worth it. It would be far easier to dump the body in a fast flowing river/the sea or burn it.

The medical condition angle is also interesting, but again it begs the question of why she hasn't been reported missing? If her bone condition was purely the result of a serious medical condition and there was no abuse, then surely someone would be missing her. Its still very interesting though. I wonder if there are tests for this kind of thing? If its a genetic disorder, perhaps the answer could be found in her DNA?

It could be a mild form of turners I think it's called mosaic turners and it is where the X chromosome are missing in some cells instead of all cells. I don't know too much about the disease, other than it can go undetected if it is a mild form.

Also, talked to Dr. Derrick about the second approximation, as of yet she has no idea when it will be available. Will keep you posted.

I think there is a girl listed as missing from some type of foster facility and I don't think she has been discussed here. I will see what I can find

True enough, but not all abused children are also neglected.

On the whole I am more inclined to believe a medical condition being the cause of her bone issues. Really nothing else about her fits with being neglected.

Here's an article that explains why she might be missing, with concerned parents trying to find her, but not listed anywhere: bad link

""It's not clear why Smith, when talking about a case that is believed to be a kidnapping and murder, raised an alarm over children believed to have run away," the newspaper reported."

edited to remove link: the article was there four hours ago. I swear it was.

Yeah, I'm getting it now, too. I don't know what happened to it.

The article was about a kerfluffle between two different LE units in California where Sierra Lamar went missing, where the sheriff talked about 63 missing girls in the county and the police chief said, essentially, "No, there aren't, they're mostly runaways and they don't count."
