TX TX-Hunt, Overnight flooding at Camp Mystic, all girls camp. Unknown number of missing. July 4, 2025

This is perfect. It sums up river peoples' attitudes perfectly. It's in their blood. You either get it, or you don't.
That's all well and good, but who's covering the cost of rebuilding?

Decades ago, Bush proposed that the NFIP should pay ONCE - and if the owners chose to rebuild there, NFIP wouldn't insure you and you'd be on your own. The real estate lobby successfully fought and won.

I believe the current standard is that is the structure is more than 49% destroyed, it has to be rebuilt at a higher elevation (I don't know if you don't get the $$ at all, or you don't get reinsured).

A few small additions. I added Charlotte and Sebastian, the two kids from the New Mexico floods. They also found Alvaro Sigala. I can't remember if there were any other additions or changes. I'm incredibly tired right now.

Just a word of caution for those looking to Facebook for information. There is a post circulating that Carlos Romero was found, including in small local media accounts, but as far as I can find no MSM nor his family are reporting this. There are also dozens of AI/spam posts that Cile Steward was found alive and well floating in a styrofoam cooler by a variety of different celebrities. Needless to say this is completely untrue, and Cile remains missing. I put this here not to spread that misinformation, but to inform that it's a big problem right now. Do like the X Files told you and question everything. Find solid sources. These are dead children we're talking about, here, and the harm can be awful if we perpetuate that junk.

We've gotten mixed messages about how to help. "Send water and non-perishable items". Okie-dokie, followed by: "We've got too much and don't have a place to store it"...(I sent cash myself)

Then there are the rescue/recovery groups. There are numerous small groups and sometimes they are at odds with each other. Someone who works for the state (a retired veteran) who is organizing some divers got hands laid on her by law enforcement. It was not good and she was made to feel not good. Eventually the divers were allowed access. But.....

This WaPo exclusive has very informative graphics. It seems to me that a lack of imagination delayed action at Mystic. I’m the pessimistic type who expects the worst case scenario and acts accordingly. But an event of this magnitude might not have entered my mind. It was chaotic.

There were some very heroic young counselors.

More rain. Flash food warning in Kerr County and adjacent counties. The heaviest rain is in NW Bandera, Real, and Uvalde Counties. It does appear that storms are moving north at this time.

The rain in Kerr County will obviously put a damper on recovery operations along the Guadalupe today.

Many roads are closed along with Frio River area, but fortunately, everyone has been moved to higher ground. It's a resort area kinda like Hunt. Looking at the map, I think the rec areas near the Frio are easier to get to higher ground than the North Fork and South Fork of the Guadalupe.
Areas affected: Garner State Park, Lost Maples State Park and private cabins/campgrounds in the area.

Thanks! Don't know where you got the chart, but it's very helpful!

It looks like heavier rain has moved out of the Hunt area and is now near Center Point/Comfort moving toward Gillespie County. (I know...weird direction)

It is still raining in the Hunt area.

Rain appears to be easing on the Frio River.

People downstream from Canyon Lake are not worried about any flooding as Canyon Lake is taking the full brunt of the water- it has been at a low level and can take a lot.

Word from certain locals to that area is that they believe that the missing bodies (or many of them) are in Canyon Lake.
That’s not in the press just word from a friend with relatives on acreage not far from Canyon Lake.
There is a boil water order in effect in the Canyon Lake area
From Kerrville to Canyon Lake is 69 miles and takes 90 minutes to drive.

All imho

I know this post is from last week, but this is my fear.

If they aren't going to be diving in Canyon Lake, how will they find them?

This is my fear......

There are so many rescue teams in Kerr County, but if many have swept into Canyon Lake, how will they find them?

Also Kerr County doesn't appear to have a list of visitors who are missing. It doesn't seem that hard to obtain lists of visitors who are missing.

Officials: Flood victims search may last 6 months

Margaret Sheedy 8

Here’s her obituary. I can’t find another source.
What a beautiful little girl. She is lighting up Heaven already, I'm sure.
It takes my breath away -- for the deep sadness of it, and for her continuing beauty and sweetness.
Prayers for her family and friends.

Here's this morning's version of the list. I may be less proactive in working on it the next couple of days, real life stuff, nothing for anyone here to worry about but very stressful for me, so I'm going to be prioritising myself and self care for a little while. Please still DM me or @ me in the thread with new names and sources for them and I will add them. I just won't be focusing my energies on research the way I have for a little while. I'll play catch up later in the week once this stressor is handled.

Due to weather, probably limited services are operating in Kerrville today (Although, they had a city council meeting this AM)

I don't think they will be releasing names today. Also search and rescue has been put on hold since Saturday. Hopefully SAR will resume tomorrow.

I haven't stumbled on any new names from the Guadalupe flooding since Saturday. If I see any, I will let you know.

Thank you, I appreciate it. <3

I read in the Guardian that a National Weather Service (NWS) alert was sent to Camp Leader Richard “Dick” Eastland's phone at 1.14am warning of “life threatening flash flooding”, and only at 2.30am, with heavy rain still falling and the river level rising fast, did he make the decision to begin evacuations.
Also, no mobile phones permitted for campers and counsellors were required to surrender theirs so they had no way of knowing there were emergency alerts issued.

This is confusing to me, because it seems like starting evacuations at 2:30 would still have been enough time? Evacuate the low-lying camps (the younger girls), tell them to to run up the hill. What am I missing?
