Apparently, they were basing the warning Mr Eastland received on cell phone records, but now are saying cell service in the area was too poor to receive the warning?

I agree with poor cell service, but wasn't he conferring with other family members shortly afterward?

Also, if the camp had wifi, which I think it did, you can set your phone to wifi service.

Who knows??

His son was with him.

I hear them, but it is confusing because they released the info about five days ago, now retracting it.

Mr Eastland's phone has not been recovered.

According to this account Eastland had a home weather station. (Note: Eastland was a on the board of the Upper Guadalupe River Authority and had served a longer term previously and was reappointed in 2022)

NYT article about the large number of missing persons.

As has been mentioned in various posts already, there are people who drove in and aren't on any kind of list or roster and some people who did survive and returned home but did not know they were listed as missing.

Then there's unidentified decedents who can't be ID'd because of decomp. And the force of the flooding really scattered people around. As an example, Devyn Smith (the 23-year-old rescued from a tree) was found 15-20 miles downstream from HTR.

I believe Eastman and his son/family were communicating via Walkie Talkie.

They ended up taking the money, but spent it on new police vehicles

<snipped for focus)

The citizens in the county didn't want to take this money due to possible strings attached, understandable given the context of the situation.

But the county leadership didn't want to turn the money away, which is also understandable. So they used it on emergency communication for LE in the county. Also perfectly understandable.

That's a lot of money. That's over a million dollars, probably to Kerr County. I'm not ready to give that away," said County Judge Rob Kelly.

"I am completely disagreeing with taking this money. The strings attached to the situation, we don't want it," said Ronald Campbell, one of the speakers...

.. the judge and commissioners decided to approve the funding, putting most of it toward a new communications system for the sheriff's office. The county spent $7 million on the safety radio system for law enforcement and fire departments.

Yes. I know that. Easier than cell phone.

But the source of him receiving the warning could have come from his son. I thought that's what it was since the son was with him etc.

Citizens didn't want to take the federal money due to possible strings attached. Sounds reasonable given the situation at that time.

Also from this article, the county sought money from FEMA which would support flooding upgrades. It wasn't a lot of money. But FEMA had diverted the funds elsewhere.

According to the Texas Tribune, Kerr County sent a request of $731,413 to FEMA to help bring in nearly $1 million in flooding upgrades. The Texas Division of Emergency Management denied the application because it didn't have a hazard mitigation plan. When that plan was resubmitted, the state gave the money to communities dealing with Hurricane Harvey.
They did take the money. They just spent it on other things.

Sounds like the money was well-spent by the county to support a safety radio system for LE and fire departments. The county residents didn''t want the emergency weather warning system, apparently, so the county leaders used the money for another safety project that was needed for the community.

I missed this yesterday...

Kerr County death toll

Kerr County says it's still 107, this source says it's 116.

However, overall the statewide death remains the same...How can it be???

Numerous sources are citing the same states.....

ETA: Maybe they found bodies downstream? I know they have been searching past the county line.

Maybe placing more cell towers by places people camp would be helpful. I used to drive through the boonies a lot and tried to get a cell service that had coverage where I was driving. The government could help with tax deductions or credits to the cell phone companies.

We drove to and from CO recently.
We were without service most of the time.

Huh??? Only three missing now???

The Kerr County Flood Disaster Joint Information Center can confirm that three individuals remain missing at this time from the July 4 flood disaster.

Through extensive follow-up work among state and local agencies, many individuals who were initially reported as missing have been verified as safe and removed from the list. This has been an ongoing effort as investigators worked diligently to verify reports of missing persons and confirm their status.

"We are profoundly grateful to the more than 1,000 local, state and federal authorities who have worked tirelessly in the wake of the devastating flood that struck our community," said Kerrville City Manager Dalton Rice. "Thanks to their extraordinary efforts, the number of individuals previously listed as missing has dropped from over 160 to three."

"This remarkable progress reflects countless hours of coordinated search and rescue operations, careful investigative work, and an unwavering commitment to bringing clarity and hope to families during an unimaginably difficult time.

"To every member of law enforcement, fire and rescue, emergency management, and supporting agencies -- thank you," said Kerr County Judge Rob Kelly. "Your dedication, professionalism and compassion have brought comfort and answers to so many."

Kerrville Mayor Joe Herring, Jr., added, "Our thoughts remain with the families still awaiting news, and we will continue to stand with them as efforts persist."

Recovery operations continue throughout the Guadalupe River watershed by local, state, national and international search teams who continue to work to reunite the missing with their families.

Well, that's comforting, considering there are many more missing.....

T-Mobile is beta testing satellite service for cellphones. I have been part of the beta group, it has been pretty amazing. I have been using it for the last year. Perfect cell service all over Montana. Glacier Park, even in Waterton, CA.

Jack Burgess and James Burgess have been found.

@iamshadow21

The Kerr County Flood Disaster Joint Information Center determined that three people are still missing from the floods, the city of Kerrville said in a news release. That is a sharp drop from the approximately 100 people authorities had previously said were unaccounted for.

I'm confused by how quickly they got from "we don't even know how many RVs were swept away" to "only 3 people are missing".

The boys have not been found, the caskets for them were empty at the service.

A few additions today, thanks to the hard work of @Friday Fan .
I have added Pam and Mike Smith and Brian and Blake Carpenter because the person in charge of a certain fundraising page seems to actually be close to the family and says they have been recovered.
I've added Martha Crawford, who seems to have been a guest of the Bryans.

I'm confused by how quickly they got from "we don't even know how many RVs were swept away" to "only 3 people are missing".

It's kind of concerning when there's no public accountability or transparency in how this information is sourced, cross-checked or compiled.

It's kind of concerning when there's no public accountability or transparency in how this information is sourced, cross-checked or compiled. It's just like "take our word for it". JMO, most people prefer a professional, standardized system that's accountable to the public.
Yikes, I didn't mean to suggest there was anything shady going on. Just that I personally feel like I missed something.

I suppose if they had a lot of unidentified bodies and a big batch of DNA results came back, that would be a way to cut the missing numbers pretty dramatically. Did the number confirmed dead rise?
