Wife of recaptured murder suspect accused of aiding in escape

Shelita Ruffin, 52, was taken into custody on Tuesday, the same day Ruffin was recaptured at a hotel in New Orleans East, for allegedly aiding in his escape.

She was booked into jail on one count each of conspiracy to commit aggravated escape and conspiracy to introduce contraband into the penal center, according to a JPSO spokesperson.

Ruffin accrued additional charges, including a count of trying to smuggle cigarettes and a lighter into the jail following his recapture by concealing them in his rectum.
