“Pigs are flying tonight.” Irene Garza’s cousin, Lynda de la Vina, said tonight. The comment is in reference to former DA Rene Guerra’s comment in the early 2000s. “He’ll never stick his finger in my face.” #FeitTrial #RGV

The jury has reached a verdict 6 hours after beginning deliberations. We’re waiting for Feit and the jury to be brought in the courtroom.

So glad to wake up to the news that he was found guilty. This poor family has pushed tirelessly for far too many years to see justice done for the murder of Irene...with all of the cover ups, they never gave up. I hope they all had a better night last night.

Although I have been too busy to follow this trial daily, I have popped in from time to time. Thank you Niner and YESorNO for all the tweets, videos, etc.

Looks like sentencing starts at 10:00 am.

The dead cannot cry out for justice. It is a duty of the living to do so for them. Chief Rodriguez, Retired Texas Ranger Jaramillo, DA Rodriquez and ADA Garza did their duty for Irene Garza. Justice has been served.

‘Wolf in Priest’s Clothing’ John Feit Convicted Of Murder

"...The seven-woman, five-man jury deliberated for just over six hours before rejecting Feit’s decades-old claim that he had nothing to do with the disappearance and suffocation of the 25-year-old McAllen schoolteacher and former Miss South Texas.

Feit, 85, sat emotionless as the verdict was read at 8:17 p.m. in the same courtroom where he pleaded no-contest in 1962 for attacking another South Texas woman, 20-year-old college student Maria America Guerra. Feit was fined $500, but served no jail time in that case.

He will be sentenced by a jury Friday morning for first-degree murder, followed by a victim impact statement expected from her nephew.

“John Feit was a wolf in priest’s clothing waiting to attack. He attacked once and then he caught his prey,” Hidalgo County Assistant District Attorney Michael Garza said during closing arguments. “Find John Feit guilty of murder by malice of forethought.”..."

Irene Garza’s family jubilant following verdict

"EDINBURG — “Justice was served,” Irene Garza’s relative asserted Thursday evening after she heard the words she’d been waiting decades to hear.

Former priest John Feit, 85, was found guilty of murdering Garza on Easter weekend in 1960.

“Irene finally got her day in court,” an emotional Noemi Sigler said of her cousin. “And that’s all we ever wanted. Bless her heart. Now she can rest. Her story has been told and nobody can ever deny it any more.”..."

Prosecutor Michael Garza asks jurors to sentence John Feit to 57 years, 1 year for “every year that he was free...getting married, having a family, mocking the system because he got away.” #irenegarza #RGV

Defense attorney O. Rene Flores says the state is asking the jury “to avenge Irene Garza.” Says convicted murderer John Feit is an ailing 85 year old man with no felony convictions

I say NO WAY! He got away with it for 57 years - and should spend the rest of his days in prison :jail:

I agree Niner...he should have been a convicted felon 57 yrs ago spending all this time in prison.

I don't think this will take long.
