Unless they know someone or know where they are going in Mexico it could end badly for them. Oh look, a white guy in a truck (perhaps still hauling trailer) screams tourist. There was a report just on GMA that several family were travelling from I believe AZ into Northern Mexico caravan style for a Wedding. Their vehicles were found shot at and burned. I think they said a child or children did manage to escape.

One of the many reasons we were forbidden to cross the border for work.

Mexico wont extradite if DP is on the table right? I remember other cases that U.S. had to agree before handing over the criminal?
ETA- I have not read that has changed.

A reporter brought that up in the PC yesterday.

Looks like the passenger could be Mexican, maybe she's familiar with the area. Driver looks fairly clean cut. He wouldn't get a second look from border patrol. Maybe wife beater husband is in the backseat of the truck or inside the rv.

Both are white

There are many degrees of 'Mexican' in Texas ranging from Mexcian immigrant to first generation to multi century Texan.

She does not seem immigrant Mexican to me due to the apparent tattoos and anglo with gauge earings- what, boyfriend? Of course, immigrants can get tattoos and associate with anybody, but I see a lot of Mexian immigrants and that arrangement seems extremely rare.

My guess is that she is at least first generation and could quite possibly be multi generation or more. In the parts of Texas that I am familiar with, there are plenty of first generation immigrants who speak fluent Spanish and have good familiarity with Mexico. There is also a surprisingly larger number whose Spanish and knowledge of Mexico is limited or non existent. This trend deepens as the generations go on.

In short, I think there is a good to very good chance that if she is Hispanic, she has little to no Spanish ability and no ties to Mexico.

Why haven't they released the suspects' names yet? What are they waiting on?

Maybe LE is remaining quiet right now. These 2 could be following media.

Even from the one photo, I don't get a feeling that these are upright citizens doing regular workaday jobs.

I get grifter / druggie / vagrant vibe from their appearance.

He looks buff in the photo and I don't see any signs on his face of chronic meth use etc. Not to say they aren't users of something but maybe they choose to deal as their source of income? IMO

Maybe he's 'prison fit?'

Yes, I was thinking of someone who worked at a gym or sold steroids or other banned body-enhancing drugs.

But it's a huge leap from dealing stuff at a local gym, for example, to double murder and becoming international fugitives.

I don't get a connection. The LeBaron / Mormon settlement folks are very clean cut and well-groomed. Not a tat amongst them.

You are right. I knew it was a flimsy limb.

Hey, it's as good a theory as anything else at this stage. I thought about it myself, but I couldn't come up with a reasonable connection.

Unless, perhaps, there is some family connnection for one of the perps and they planned to hideout in one of the smaller communities. But their tats and piercings / ear gauges would make them stand out heavily in any of the small remote mountain communities, Mormon or Mexican, and once a reward was issued, would take no time for the local folks to rat them out. I get the feeling that most of the US-based relatives of the Mexican Mormon settlements are living in Arizona near Douglas, or Texas near El Paso.

My feeling is that these people are not headed to a remote Mormon compound.

The tats and ear gauges are just not acceptable in those areas. Maybe in downtown Salt Lake City where there are hipsters everywhere, but not in a very remote, very tight-knit community of a couple of hundred very devout Mormons.

MOO

Thinking I will delete my original post. Not good to draw negative attention to anyone who doesn't deserve it. :(

Given this morning's news, I think EVERYONE who follows this thread was trying to link up the unconfirmed comments that the perps were from Utah and had crossed into Mexico, in an obscure crossing somewhat near to the area of the tragic killings. I see no reason to delete your post. We are all just trying to connect tiny bits of information, and speculation is part of how we do it.

If there had not been the killings in northern Mexico, your thoughts would have engendered at lot of free discussion.

No need to delete IMO! You were just following logical thinking. I also doubt these two crimes are related, but how could it not cross our minds? We’re here to brainstorm IMO, and that’s one of WS’s greatest strengths. :)
