OMG, y'all! Wasn't aware of this case until this evening when I listened to a podcast with the details. What a couple of criminal masterminds!

Got quite a chuckle when I saw that the widdah-woman referred to a WS thread as "stupid". Looking forward to seeing these 2 in court.

Will he turn on her in exchange for reduced charges?

Based on his attorney's comments, I think turning on her is indeed a possible defense!

Tx. Wife Who Pleaded for Info About Husband's Killing Charged in Case

Feb 2021

Lopez's attorney Juan Sanchez said in an email to PEOPLE, "We are in the preliminary stages and have yet to receive the discovery evidence necessary to formulate his defense. With that said, we believe Mr. Lopez to be a good man with a military background, that may have been manipulated by Jennifer Faith and caused him to act under some belief that she was in some kind of danger. Of course, this is just a theory of the case that is fluid, and could change once we receive more information."

Jennifer's attorney did not immediately respond to PEOPLE's request for comment.

Jennifer remains in federal custody.

Her lawyer, Toby Shook, talked to WFAA on-camera after Friday’s hearing, responding to the obstruction of justice allegation.

Court documents say during the month of the murder, Jennifer and Lopez exchanged more than 14,000 calls and texts.

“There’s thousands of them. So we need to get a complete picture. Obviously, we believe we have a defense," Shook said. "This murder case that’s intertwined – that’s a 41-page affidavit, which the Dallas detectives clearly believe that my client’s involved in the planning and murder of her husband, which I don’t believe the evidence shows that."

Shook pointed to the fact that Faith cooperated with police "right away," turned over her phone, and left text messages on it saying she was in an emotional affair. A criminal complaint released this week said detectives believe Faith deleted text messages from her phone before giving it to police.

Shook also said she had told her husband about the affair and wasn't going to leave him in August -- evidence he said was backed up by text messages.

"There’s no evidence – I don’t believe that she planned or assisted Mr. Lopez in this murder at all," said Shook.

The probable cause affidavit said that in the deleted text messages, Jennifer and Lopez discussed Jamie's life insurance payout, of which she was a beneficiary.

[..]

“They mentioned that interview in the affidavit,” Shook said. “But again, her actions are not consistent with someone planning the murder. The district attorney’s office has been investigating, but they’ve chosen not to indict my client for murder. DPD has not arrested her, so I think that’s pretty telling that they’re lacking evidence of that. Right now, we’ll just deal with this federal charge. If that changes, we believe we have a good defense.”

No next court date was set in Friday's hearing.

“She’ll be in federal custody,” Shook said. “And they’ll have to go forward with indictment in the federal case. And then we will get dates set on moving towards a trial.”

I'm very curious about the strategy of her defense: They waived her detention hearing which means they are content to keep her sitting in jail and also her preliminary hearing. Since the preliminary is like a mini-trial where witnesses and evidence can be introduced, I don't think the wife and her lawyer want any of this information out in the public (making it also available to the State).

Her jury trial was set for June 1 but the defense filed a motion to continue the trial which was not opposed. The new trial date is August 23, 2021.

I really hope we hear about State charges much earlier than August!

Pointing out that she cooperated with police isn’t really a great help to her. What voice did she have? Go silent and ask for council to show her lack of a winning hand from the start? I think she done that thinking messages were erased.

The day after she went on TV with Dallas reporter (Alex R) pleading for leads -- she texted the accused shooter that he needed to remove the "T" sticker from his truck. That was Dec 3. I don't believe that the State of Tx is finished with Ms. Faith.

So sorry for the friends and family mourning Jamie.

The wife of a Dallas man accused of getting rid of evidence in her husband’s murder investigation was ordered on Friday to remain in federal custody.

The accused gunman in the homicide was her lover, according to federal officials and Dallas police.

Jennifer Lynne Faith, 48, waived a detention hearing Friday morning in federal court, and she was ordered to be held without bond.

[..]

If convicted, Jennifer Faith faces a maximum of 20 years in prison.

“I am pleased to see that there were no stones left unturned during the course of this investigation, and that our collaborative efforts have brought those involved to justice,” said Dallas Police Chief Eddie Garcia in a news release. “I am also excited to continue this partnership with the USDOJ in our ongoing determination to remove the criminal elements off the streets.”

[..]

Federal authorities said Jennifer Faith was having an affair with Lopez, who she dated in high school and college. From Sept. 30 to Oct. 30, 2020, she and Lopez exchanged 14,363 texts, according to federal court documents.

“I truly can’t be without you at this point,” Jennifer Faith texted Lopez in December.

[..]

A MetLife Insurance Co. agent contacted Dallas police in November and told them that James Faith had a life insurance policy in excess of $600,000 and that the beneficiary was Jennifer Faith.

[..]

On Jan. 10, Jennifer Faith texted Lopez to tell him that she was going to delete contents from her cell phone before meeting with investigators. Federal authorities determined she did that, but they were able to recover the deleted text messages off of Lopez’s cell phone.

I think there's a good working relationship between feds and the state here. No doubt the state is working on a financial motive. I think DL was probably caught in his girlfriend's web of greed. She had options -- DIVORCE. No excuses.

I know that lawyers have to paint as nice of a picture as possible but this sounds like a reach. As I wrote before, her mentioning the T sticker seals it for me. If she knew then that he should be laying low, she had to know why.

@Seattle1 - for some reason I am NOT getting alerts for being "tagged" for this case. I have taken notes for these cases - so will be following this one. :)

Okay - I just tried to find Darrin Ruben Lopez in the Dallas County court site - and he is not coming up... ?? Is he still in Tennessee awaiting extradition? Do I have his name correct? Do you know - anyone - when his next court date is?

Also - how old was James Faith?

TIA!

TIA!

From James obit, May 11, 1971 ~ October 9, 2020 (age 49).

Darrin Ruben Lopez name/spelling is all correct and he was extradited to Texas in January 2021. I didn't remember about his federal charges until this post. No idea of any of his court activity and I haven't seen any news about him since April. I've mostly just kept tabs on his wife's charges because I did not want her out of jail! Hoping she gets indicted in Texas too.

Lopez also faces a federal charge of taking a firearm across state lines to commit a felony.

Thanks for that additional info @Seattle1 ! The Dallas County court site is down for the time being - I'll look later today to see if Lopez has a court date listed.
I have hers on 11/12 for pretrial hearing & trial on 11/15/21.
