I counted 9 shots as well. That's A LOT for one person. Normally I would say it was personal. But this is a weird one.

Police said the suspect also tried duct taping the wife's hands together to steal the jewelry off her fingers. Assistant Chief Avery Moore with Dallas police said the man may have been trying to abduct her, but he took off when she screamed.

Very odd indeed. What gunman brings duct tape to a street robbery? It sounds more like the wife was the target of an attempted kidnapping.

I’m always suspicious when a murder occurs and is severe (many shots) but there’s a witness left.

I am too, but it's possible the gunman simply ran out of ammo. He fired very fast, perhaps without counting his shots.

I also think the comment by the police officer is very telling. Given the officer's views and the increased possibility of a targeted attack, I think the next step is to examine likely sources for a targeted motive:

- Money
- Romance
- Respect / Disrespect

Lay offs can be seen as a respect / disrespect issue. The airline industry has started large scale lay offs as federal subsidies have run out. I wonder what the victim's role was at the company and if he implemented or oversaw lay offs?

The obituary says that he was in a leadership roll and supported his employees and coworkers so I guess this could be possibly a motive? Nothing makes any sense so far.

Supporting ones employees and coworkers in a leadership role can involve making difficult decisions in difficult times.
These are very difficult times for the airline industry.

No matter how justified lay offs are and no matter how fairly implemented, there are going to be some employees who take it personally. I would really examine what his recent leadership roles at his company involved.

I also agree that there are alot of strange aspects. Though I am hesitant to read too much into it, the victim was a technology manager. The truck, however, with its dark tint, large sports team sticker and possible custom rims does not seem like it would be likely owned by a presumably IT employee- too many "in your face" and blue collar'ish vibes in a vague way.

@Cryptic , I was thinking about the truck owner also and guessing it to be a younger person. As you say, the rims, sports sticker, etc. I’m starting to look more at the classic motives that you listed yesterday on page 1.

Anyone else thinking it could be a murder for hire situation? The duct tape is just bizarre and low-level robbery (unless you knew the targets were carrying a lot of cash) doesn't make any sense. My over-active imagination is suspicious of the duct taping of his partner, as if to ensure she is also viewed as a victim, but wasn't actually harmed (fully MOO). I am hoping LE is going over his personal life with a fine-toothed comb to figure this one out.

That’s exactly what I’m starting to think. If fact, the only similar case I’ve seen with basically the same facts, it was an intended murder.There was even duct tape used on the victims wife’s hands. I know there is no shortage of opportunity crimes but I have my doubts on this being one.

It feels like he wouldn’t wanted to hit her. Like he loves or admires her and in place of hurting her he just wanted to make sure she won’t fight back? I don’t know.

Again, I find the officers comments telling. This is reported as a random crime but LE seems to be showing some concern. Why the lengthy explanations about so many murders occurring with “people who know one another”?

There's really not much distinctive about the truck. Pell the sticker off the back window and it would blend in with all the other black Nissan pickups.

It sounds like it... Hopefully there are some ring door cameras around there or other security camera footage to check. Fingers crossed that the face of the perp would be visible on one. I know the chance of that is not great, but you never know.

Because there is a picture of the car, LE must have already found some footage, hopefully they‘ll even find some better one.

I agree.

As a side note, that part of Dallas is a mix of gentrifiers and residents who have lived in the area for years, and in many cases, generations.

A certain number of the long term residents represent an "olde school" Dallas where customized pick up trucks and "loud 'n proud" support of the Cowboys, Rangers and Mavericks are common.

Thus, that truck with tinted windows, possible after market rims and prominent Texas Rangers sticker could well indicate a local resident more than an AA tech worker. As you stated, a local resident could have a well, uhmm……. "local" motive.
