GUILTY TX - James Faith, AA tech director, fatally shot walking his dog, Dallas, 9 Oct 2020 *ARRESTS/wife*

A good many people in urban Texas, myself included, would he hard put to distinguish pistol shots from a string of fire crackers. Then factor in the nature of the area. The neighborhood is "grey" in the sense that its a combination of old school south Dallas and gentrification.

The areas is not high crime enough to make most people urban residents think "Alarm, I know gun shots and that was probably a series of rapid gun shots- about two doors down". Yet, its also not tony enough to the extent people would automatically think: "Alarm- People here just don't light off strings of fire crackers- ever."

In contrast, I would not be surprised if a certain number of long term area residents habitually uhmmm...."disregard" the Dallas city ordinances against fireworks. Though its been a long time since the Fourth and fireworks at 0730 are strange, left over fireworks getting lit off might not be unheard of either.

Thus, given the totality, I think the minds of a lot of neighbors might of went into "neutreal" in regards to recognition and then went into "reset" mode.
at 7:30am ? I think there will be video and other witnesses who would not think someone was doing fireworks at this time - IMO.

American Airlines technology director fatally shot while walking his dog in Dallas, police say
Detectives believe the suspect was in a black Nissan pick-up truck that may have a Texas Rangers sticker in the rear window.

Someone in that pick up just drove up and shot James Faith while he was walking his dog at 7:30 AM. Reminds me of the Elizabeth Barraza garage sale murder.

Yes, 0730.

At the end of the day, 0730 is not the beginning of the day (get it, get it?) for a certain segment of the population.

Rather, 0730 can be close to bed time after a long night of video gaming, clubbing, hanging out etc. It may also be when people return home from say, working the the stocking shift at Walmart.

What better thing to do before turning hitting the sack than to get rid of a string of left over fire crackers? Sure it may mildly annoy neighbors, but those inclined to disregard fireworks ordinances are probably not prone to think about that. Besides..... its just a partial string.

My bet is that a certain number of the long term residents have left over fire crackers and for a variety of reasons, a few might light some at 0730.

The crime occurred at 7:34 am, according to all of the articles linked in this thread.

I am still a bit suss of the surviving witness. He shoots one person 9 x, then attempts to duct tape the woman's hands then runs off when she screams?

I can understand the mag dump (completely firing until out of bullets quickly) if the murderer was nervous. I wouldn’t think professional would use a caliber that uses that many shots to kill someone or be that poor of a shot to need to fire 9 times. I don’t know who makes an 8+1 pistol but I’m sure I can find some on a google search.

That said about the gun, I don’t get the duct tape. I can shoot one handed and hold a roll of tape in the other I guess but why bring duct tape to a gun fight? I can see getting out of the car and point gun, demanding jewelry, altercation with husband leading to gun being fired. Did he run back to the car to get the duct tape? “Crap I’m out of bullets, stay there for a second.”? If your intentions were to just rob by intimidation why bring duct tape and if your intentions were kidnapping why mag dump or at least bring another magazine and you won’t need the duct tape. Or bring a knife. Duct tape is not a back up.

I’m perplexed. As always IMOO.

Furthermore in what world would he be worried about her scream but not the gunshots he just fired?

good points!
if it weren't so terrible, it would be laughable

I usually don’t have a problem with the cases that I follow on here really bugging me but there are currently 3 that are under my skin, including this one. The statement of “there he was, out of nowhere, shooting” tells me this was a hit. The robbery seemed to be an afterthought and he wasn’t interested in robbing Mr Faith? The kidnapping theory is out the window for me as I don’t think that was intended at all. The perp done what he was there to do. All this is my rambling opine of course.
Exactly, the motive is all over the place.

If it was robbery, then there’s no reason to shoot someone that many times.

If it was a kidnapping attempt, then there’s no reason to pivot, and turn it into a robbery.

Also, once you murder someone in broad daylight, your priority is getting out of there as soon as possible. But no, this guy takes the time to try and steal jewelry.

So we’re to believe this guy is just driving around, hoping to rob a couple out walking their dog? That’s a high risk, low payoff type crime, as there’s no reasonable expectation you are going to acquire valuables that might make it worth it.

This makes sense on absolutely no level.

It just has to be a hit, designed by a complete idiot. It reminds me of famous cases in the past, where people claim they have been carjacked in the middle of nowhere, by a stranger just lurking around.

I ain’t fooled.

Apparently by the time he got to the wife he had no bullets left. She starts screaming and he lets her go. After having the audacity to put 9 bullets in the husband why didn't he pistol whip her to shut her up. Vicious to the husband but very obliging to the wife.....Makes no sense to me. MOO

It just seems weird. He must have known how many bullets he had....why use 9 on the 1st person?

This case has really gotten to me and I'm so disappointed that it's been so quiet in the news. I think there have been just three stories? This needs to be solved.

Thinking outloud I'm stumped on motive.

Is this a random act where the victims were simply in the wrong place at the wrong time?
  • If so, why the duct tape?
  • Why not shoot them both and take anything he could?
  • Or why not just brandish the gun and rob them?
  • I suppose the perp could have planned a crime (kidnapping? robbery?) bringing duct tape but not necessarily did he plan this crime against these victims.
  • The random scenario just doesn't seem right to me but perhaps that's because I don't want to think some perp is on the streets of Dallas just killing people at random at 730am while they walk their dogs.

So that brings me to a targeted crime.
  • The 9 shots seem so overkill for a victim who has no weapon himself and was likely somewhat incapacitated by the first one or two shots.
  • Why keep shooting?
  • Why leave a witness?
  • Perp had a mask on but there's a lot of detail that can still be seen. Height? Clothing? Skin color? Shoes?
  • Why haven't we heard more detail about this perp?
  • Was anything actually taken?
  • Why isn't there any pleading publicly with anymore details about this masked heavyset perp?
  • How about offering a reward from the family?
  • How about the G... Account being used for a reward?

I obviously have no idea what happened. I just have a lot of questions and more than anything want this perp off the streets.

  • Has the type of gun been shared? LE obviously knows due to the bullets.
  • It doesn't seem like LE is interested in getting the public's help. Why?
  • No press conferences.
  • Obviously LE has a lot more information than they are sharing. But reading into their lack of communication maybe they already know who they are looking for?
Hopefully today will be the day. All MOO.

Also, the surviving witness was able to see his car, which may have been stolen, but still might be important in identifying him. So leaving her alive and well seems strange.

It really feels to me that this was a targeted hit on the first victim. JMO

Dallas proper resident here and I am sorry to say gun fire, sadly even 9 rapid succession shots, is a multiple times a day occurence. Sometimes people notice and feel compelled to call 911, sometimes they don't. If you are awake at 7:30am you are probably hustling around getting ready for work, showering, maybe cooking breakfast. The closest neighbors all heard it - as would be expected. Outside of that I'm not finding any records of "random gunfire" reported when I look back in Twitter at the DPD active call feed for the Southwest Division (which includes JF's residence & where the incident took place) On that feed robberies, burglaies, and armed encounters are sprinkled throughout the morning hours on a regular basis, so the 7:30 am time doesn't necessarily mean much MOO.
I did also find a couple of articles on their neighborhood Advocate magazine's website, including one that has a video of an official police statement on the day of (look toward the bottom) It was a neighbors doorbell cam that caught the pic of the truck.
Just an FYI the video is a bit amateurish. The first 50 seconds are just of people kind of shooting the "caca".
Man shot dead while walking his dog on South Waverly this morning - Oak Cliff

I'm also posting a screenshot of the Tweet from DPD of the active call from that incident in case anyone is interested. These are posted as units are sent, not by the logged time of the 911 call.

I meant to ask, is it possible to correct the title of this thread? The incident happened on Friday, October 9, 2020. Not on the 12th. TIA

After some consideration, as a 15 year resident of TX, gun shots will get my attention to an extent but a woman’s scream would definitely draw an attention if I heard it. I also live in the country where gunshots are a common occurrence at all hours, target shooting, predator shooting, etc..even the tanarite (sp) explosions I don’t notice much any more. However, when we lived in the city, gun shots were much more alarming. No one should be firing rounds within the city limits.

It's always suspicious when the crime sounds like a bad movie plot. I have a plate of crow to eat if this is not what I think this is. Do we know for sure this truck was involved? I'm thinking there wasn't a third person involved. Did LE do a gunshot residue test? I hope LE has checked alk the nearby sewer drains in case someone needed a place to quickly get rid of a gun.

I’m right there with you, raised eyebrows and all, but I would think the crime scene folks were pretty detailed. I’ll feel foolish too if this doesn’t land where we think it is but I’ll keep those notions for now.

I’m having a hard time thinking that, as camera crazy as we are these days, only one doorbell camera caught anything. That looks like a heavily populated area so it just seems there would be surveillance cams on homes, garages, yards, and what about red light cameras?

  • #97
surprised no arrest yet
seems like an easy solve

  • #98
I hope that LE knows who did this and are waiting and watching in order to connect any accomplices to the crime.

Supporting an arrest with enough evidence to prove guilt beyond a reasonable doubt is far different than solving the case in regards to noting unlikely circumstances and say, focusing on a person(s) of interest.

I know. I'm just impatient I guess.
