Many of those have been taken down in DFW.

Red light cameras used to be far more common, but a number were actually operated by private companies with contracts to cities. The fines were not truly imposed by a Court, but were actually fees sent by the company with police simply affirming the violation.

Evidently there were challenges to the legality of the arrangement and metroplex residents learned from the "grapevine" that one could ignore the private fees as they were not truly court ordered (despite use of court looking letterhead and court addresses by the companies). The red light cameras then got pruned.

In many places in the US, traffic cameras, including red light cameras, don't record continuously. The following statements are generally true, though some states and localities may differ. It's fairly easy to Google for state laws to see what is allowed.
Under the law, a red light camera is only going to record when a violation happens. Traffic cameras are for viewing traffic only - they don't record at all.

The suspect shoots the husband, then manages to pull a roll of duct tape out from somewhere, then inexplicably pulls out a roll of duct tape and takes the time to tape the wive's hands together in order to steal jewelry off her fingers?

Has anyone ever heard of a person's hands being duct taped in order to steal jewelry off of their hands?
Because that sounds way overly complicated to me.

Where'd the shooter pull this duct tape out from, anyway?
Was he holding it clamped in his teeth, or what?
How did he duct tape her hands whilst holding a firearm?

The idea that the perp had no concerns about firing repeated gunshots in a residential neighborhood, but took off scared when the wife started screaming, is beyond ludicrous.

Eagerly awaiting an arrest in this case.
And not just the shooter, either.

What an asinine plot.

Furthermore, I'm appalled at the amount of $$$ the Gimme Fund has generated.
I predict some people are going to be demanding their money back.
The fact that there are no refunds for Gimme donations, notwithstanding.

I read somewhere here that the truck image came from a nearby doorbell cam. The tag would have been nice.

New local news coverage. The video that goes along with the story includes several images of the truck from various cameras. Sadly none captured the license plate. Also includes snippets of an interview with his wife. Crime Stoppers reward has been increased to $25,000.

Interesting to note - this is incident 179853-2020 in DPD open data. When you pull up the "unknown suspects" report there is NO information about the suspect: not even what has been reported in MSM.

I can understand restraining someone in order to rob them, but it makes no sense in a situation like this.

This man was shot 9 times, when all the attacker had to do was point a gun at them, and demand whatever he wanted.

When robberies like this turn violent, it tends to be because the gunman panics. Anecdotally, it seems they usually only fire a single shot when this happens.

You have a blitz style overkill attack, and then he slows down, restraining this woman in an attempt to steal her jewelry.

It’s almost schizophrenic.

So his motive (robbery) makes no sense to me, which makes me think about other possibilities. It just looks like a hit.

So say someone wants this man dead. There’s no reason to do it this way, and perform a bizarre charade (making it look like a robbery).

Unless of course, you’re trying to misdirect law enforcement.

That’s why I’m super suspicious.

@MassGuy - Totally agree this is a bizzaro one! As you said, why the weird charade during daylight hours when all the video doorbells can see your vehicle. Seems kind of amateur-ish. On the other hand, as far as we know they have gotten away with it so far.
Is it possible they are just lucky that not one of the videos got the license plate? I've seen ads for a cover you can put on a plate that supposedly keeps a camera from being able to get a clear shot - but I always figured that was just a bogus product. Texas requires plates on both the front and back of a vehicle too - so that means no cameras got the plate coming or going?

I guess it’s possible he got lucky, but I’m also open to your idea that he tampered with it some way (covered or altered).

It seems very strange that they haven’t been able to locate this vehicle yet, and something like that would explain it.

I could be completely off here....but what if the pickup truck that we've seen the photos of actually had nothing to do with this? Meaning, that truck just happened to be driving by at around the same time this happened and initially the police thought it must have been involved due to the only living eyewitness's statements? This isn't a perfect theory by any stretch (if the shooter wasn't in that vehicle, then where did the gun go?) but just trying to come up with anything at this point.

I thought the wife stated that the shooter emerged from that truck? Surely she seen where they came from.

I think OP is suggesting that the witness may not have been truthful. I’m certainly open to that, although I doubt LE could have been fooled.

So I think it’s probable they are searching for the right vehicle.
