My parents were very young when I was born (18,15) and they did the best they could but had no real clue about things like this. In my extended family there were female molesters and males. Really sick stuff but it ended with ME.
I confronted all of them at the reunion and my kids will never know them. I have ended the "family tradition" of being molested. It stopped with me.

Sounds sick, eh?

But it explains my hatred of all child abusers and molesters!

It definately does explain it!!! I'm glad that the cycle of abuse from that extended family ended with you!!! You were strong enough to make sure of that!!!

I admire the way you understand why your parents acted as they did without carrying that on to the next generation.

I agree that it is often the families that abuse these children. Molestation runs in families, my mother and I were both molested by an uncle, along with all the female cousins. NO ONE stood up to protect us, even our own mothers. I finally brought it up at a family reunion in front of everyone...DRAMA!! But it got the message out plus the kickin he got later on by a husband of one of his many victims made me happy.
He is no longer around children and lives a very lonely life outside the family. When I see him out I often yell "PEDOPHILE PERVERT" even at the grocery store. I want everyone to know what he is! Sadly, everything he has done happened in the late 70's early 80's so there is no way we can put him in jail.

Good for you!! You have the satisfaction of not hiding or being ashamed.

I have a friend who was molested repeatedly by her father. My friend married young to get out of the house, and ended up not being able to hold the marriage together.. she was very promiscuous .. symptoms of her abuse. The amazing thing is that she still needs to be loved by her abuser... her father. She has allowed her parents to babysit her own daughter. In denial, she has allowed her daughter to be alone with her father. Her daughter is nearly 20 yrs old and hates her mother.. my friend. I dont know if the daughter was ever molested by granddad, but I would bet that she has.

Hugs for what you went through and cheers for putting a stop to your family's cycle of victims. That first one to stand up and be heard (even if they have to repeat it many times) has it the hardest, but what a wonderful thing to reflect on as you go through life. Although it must have been hard, YOU made a difference in so many current and future relatives. It starts with one!

I'm glad you responded to my post. Maybe I shouldn't have even written as much as I did (since we really should keep our job-related stuff anonymous here), but some evenings it does weigh heavily on me. I can't talk about much of it at home, either. They know where I work, haha. Then again, as I'm learning about this new (to me) area of crime and the federal laws, I can hope that any tidbit that educates someone can make a difference. I'm proud of my work in my "old life" of working with a different type of crime victims, and I'm finding a new-found challenge learning this new area - and hoping I can leave this earth knowing I made a difference in my local community.

Congrats to what you have done.

P.S. I'm wondering if some laws may change in the next decade or so, changing the statute of limitations for some cases of sex crimes such as rape and aggravated sexual assaults, etc. Now that there can be DNA evidence collected and saved for many years, I'd like to think a rape that happened 15 years prior could be tried just as a murder. What do y'all think? I hate to see sex predators get away with it because of a time limitation. JMO.

Going back and reading the case disposition, I'm also greatly impressed that it came to sentencing so quickly. The investigation started in 2/08? And he's already sentenced? I love it!

I must confess...I started a new job earlier in 2008, and we have one employee who focuses on the computer forensics/investigations for kiddie . He's worked there several years, but only became certified this year. Therefore, local agencies (as well as within our own agency) send him their child cases. Although he's the one doing the actual forensics investigations, I get to review all his case reports. This is a new area for me - I thought I'd seen a lot in the last 15 years, but I have to say I'm almost surprised on a weekly basis.

The whole culture and subsurface community of this cr*#. And one thing that is so commonthat gets me is how often the FAMILY is sharing so much of this stuff. :furious: Like...does it come up at Thanksgiving dinner or what?!?!?! :furious: "Hey, Dad...I've got kiddie pics of my daughter...want me to send them to you?!?!?!" (Yeah, that would make it the father sending the pics of the granddaughter to the grandfather! That was this week's case.)

So...I like the message this judge sent

I was on grand jury a few years ago and we had a child internet case - the evidence caused me many sleepless nights.

Fort Worth Star-Telegram

FORT WORTH – A Texas state appeals court has affirmed the 4,060-year prison sentence given to a man in 2008 for sexually abusing three teenage girls.

The Second Court of Appeals in Fort Worth issued its opinion Thursday regarding the 43 guilty verdicts and unprecedented prison sentence for James Kevin Pope of Springtown.

Pope, 44, was convicted by a Parker County jury in July 2008 on 40 counts of sexual assault of a child and three counts of sexual performance of a child.

The 4,060-year penalty – almost 1.5 million days – has been called the longest stacked sentence handed down in Texas history.

Can we post this info in men's (and lady's) rest room stalls and dressing rooms? Something to think about before you abuse that child (you know, person under the age of 18). We do it with STD info, drunk driving, and shoplifting warnings, why not child abuse sentencing?
