Here is a statement from Jason's dad
Southminster Presbyterian Church Missouri City, Texas

A message from Kent:
"It has come to my attention that some media sources are claiming that Jason's backpack that was found at the scene was "filled with narcotics". I believe that nothing could be farther from the truth. And more to the point, nothing could be more hurtful to Jason or his character. Jason was a typical college student who was coming home to see friends and family. And we're still waiting for him to come home after 23 days.
I have been given Jason's backpack and I can tell you what it was filled with: his laptop, contacts, some of his toiletries, and all of his Playstation gaming gear. You see, Jason had already made plans to meet with his friends online and play some games together over the break. Jason's backpack had those personal items and his Playstation, controllers, headset, and accessories.
So please don't believe the media when they try to sensationalize what is a tragedy in order to get you to click on their site and read their articles. Do something that's actually useful - hope and pray for our son, who is still missing. Care for your own family and count your blessings. If you don't know how or what to pray for, I invite you to join me in my daily prayer from Proverbs 3:5-6: "Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight.""

I’m not sure if I missed anyone else pointing this out, but it seems Kent Landry’s words about Jason’s plans to play video games with friends online (and had all the required equipment with him) served two purposes:

1. to show that his backpack was too full with other items to be “filled” with narcotics
2. to show he had plans with friends in efforts to dispel any rumors or “talk” about the possibility of suicide or Jason voluntarily going off the grid.

IMO

ETA: I would hazard a guess that when Jason’s friends were interviewed by LE, at least one or two offered something along the lines of “he seemed fine. The last time we talked, we were setting up plans to play video games at such and such time.” (I have a few video game playing sons, and there is almost always coordination with friends leading up to the actual game playing.)

That makes a lot of sense.
I reckon his mum would have certainly been alerted too because I believe those college kids go home for food as much as love.
I spare a thought for all his friends as well as his family who are now grieving too. i really hope he can be located very soon.

Re: all the speculation as to if the parents were expecting him that night...

We have one son who is a welder that travels. Sometimes we know to expect him home, a few times he's just surprised us for the fun of it. (Especially fun for the little ones at home!)

Just a thought.

Has anything been said about his glasses? Does he wear them all the time? When he reads? When he drives? It bothers me to think he had his glasses on while he was driving and may have lost them during the crash and could not see well. I've lived in the country all my life and I wear glasses, and even though I know my yard, road and neighborhood like the back of my hand, I would still be disoriented and would probably stumble and fall without my glasses. Thinking about Jason with a possible head injury walking in the dark without being able to see has bothered me so bad!!! I pray they find him soon. MOO

Yes, I was wondering if his glasses were cracked or broken as a result of the wreck. He could have been wearing contacts, but not sure. His dad said there were contacts in his backpack....so I was wondering if he might have been wearing glasses that night?

Most contacts these days are disposable. Wear one day and throw away. They are packaged in 30 day quantities. I would think he would use this type as most of the young folks I know do. They are easier, more convenient. So he probably packed the amount he would need while home. MOO

Good point @CemeteryHunter12 ! I have witnessed a couple of accidents where the first thing I did was to help the drivers figure out where their glasses ended up. Fortunately neither driver was badly hurt. The loss of glasses might explain some other details about JL's accident too, like the cell phone being lost and left in the car, etc.

Although this thread's lead photo shows JL with sunglasses (so not necessarily prescription), for reference there is a recent photo from Texas Equusearch with JL wearing what appear to be clear prescription lenses. SEARCH SUSPENDED: Jason Landry – Caldwell County, Texas (12/14/20)

Good point. IMO, this would have been a question asked by SAR on the missing person questionnaire. It’s important.

Anyone seen the latest MISSING POSTER? It was put out by Caldwell County SO. The photo of his is completely different from what was previously put out.

Per the poster, investigators believe he survived the crash with little to no injury.

His clothing and artifacts were 900 feet away, in the roadway.

New photo, current to the weekend he went missing.

Could someone have been chasing him? Causing him to be driving too fast, ultimately losing control and crashing, only to betray to bolt on foot? Could he have been abducted by chasers?

Assuming he moved his clothes and such 900 feet, where did he go from there????? $64,000 question. And wherever he went, did he go there voluntarily or involuntarily, with possession of his faculties or in an injured state?

Law Enforcement is putting it out there that he wasn't seriously injured.....

Still, his head could've taken some knocking without evidence of injury...

That’s a huge piece of news that authorities believe the operator of vehicle was able to walk away with little to no injuries

Somehow even more disturbing. He survived the crash. He started to walk away.... then what?

What caused him to lose control? What or could it have been a who?

Could someone have wanted to do him harm? Hence the accident, hence him not found....

It's a peculiar bit of new information --

What happened on that road?????

Thanks for the heads-up. The CCSO indicates this is the most recent photo of Jason -- taken the weekend he vanished.

The new photo that was taken the same weekend he went missing leads me to believe LE was able to crack the phone (or at the very least access the data remotely).
