‘Snake Guy' gets life in prison for motel slaying (mysanantonio.com)

A long-term Northeast Side motel resident known as “Snake Guy” who ambushed another resident in his room, shooting him in the face with a sawed-off shotgun, was sentenced Monday to life in prison.

Julian Cedrick Bell, 31, was convicted by a jury earlier this month of murdering Jason Ross, 28, last June. Prosecutors said Bell's pride had been hurt because Ross rebuffed his overtures to hang out.

While witnesses to the shooting didn't know Bell by name, they did knew him as “the Snake Guy” — a reference to his pet boa constrictor, which he often wore around his neck and shoulders while walking around the motel complex.
