I am trying to understand a family believing a facebook post saying their child had been found... when they hadn't heard from law enforcement.

I am assuming it is just simply that they so wanted to believe it... they don't know, like we do that you have to wait and see. But to assume it's true, start telling people, start taking down signs... because of a facebook post? That is kind of extreme... absolutely horrible to think he was found and then find out he wasn't though... hopefully in the future they won't believe something on facebook unless it can be verified in some way.

Why not call LE if you've read on FB that your son was found?

I'm surprised LE is not still in their home.

I can understand wanting to believe any source that told you your son was found alive, but my instinct would be to call.

FYI the searching with bloodhounds thru the night comment was in regards to last night (sat.).
Not sure where they are tonight.
From what I can tell they're clearing large open areas using area search dogs and areas using HRD dogs (a much slower job), still not seeing any trailing SAR dogs in the picture and really wondering why. None of the agencies listed have them, so that could be part of the problem. There seems to be a common theme in TX of using the DOJ bloodhounds and I'm starting to wonder if that's why we're not seeing trailing dogs in each group.

So correct me if Im wrong, but trailing dogs would be useful to tell one way or another if Joshua left on foot? If there was no trail...then odds are he was either put in a car or never left the house that night? TIA and just trying to get this straight in my mind.

And sorry, the short answer to "if this child wandered away" and "why haven't the dogs found him" would be that the dogs and/or their handlers blew it. If this child just wandered away and the dogs were properly trained for SAR work, they should have found him.....

ETA-I have a feeling these weren't SAR dogs...

I have a feeling he didn't just wander away.

Just saw a news blurb on him on KABB Fox 29 here in SA...no new news. They did say that investigators say they don't think he was kidnapped. I don't know about that. I hate to say this but I think someone grabbed him. My heart aches for this little guy. I have not read every post this morning but does anyone know if mom/dad had any enemies...anyone that would have a grudge with them?

The poor little guy. How far could he possibly get in that period of time at eighteen months old? I would think a child that age would walk in circles or back and forth in the same general area. I don't think he would set out on a linear path and keep going. Soon, he would've fallen or just collapsed. The area looks flat and wide open, no thick vegetation. I can't believe he would not have been found by now. Not sure what I think, except that it's very sad.

Hoping and praying that today is now the day we hear this sweet angel has been found!

I read in the one of the previous pages t hat it does indeed have some thick vegetation and some woods as well.. Don't know how accurate that is though, because form the pictures from bing and all, it looks very open...

Hope this isn't a duplicate of what's already been posted, but I'm almost frantic searching for updates......I have Grandkidlets this age and I can't even...... well, here's what I've found:

Benitez and her boyfriend believe someone may have abducted Joshua, though authorities said they've found no sign of foul play, the newspaper said.
That left the boy's father, Josh Davis, grasping for an explanation for his son's disappearance, San Antonio's KENS-TV reported.
"I don't understand how he could wander off," he said.
"I just want my son. I could care less who did it. In fact if they do find out, I don't even want to know who did it. I just want my son back, that's all I want."

From this link at KGNB-AM:

http://kgnb.am/news/update-day-4-begins-search-missing-new-braunfels-toddler

"Media reports yesterday that a toy of the toddler’s was found on top of a mailbox (and speculation that only an adult could have left it there) sparked even more concern that the boy had been taken, but police quickly explained that the toy was old, had been outside for a long time, and it was a searcher that had placed it on the mailbox."

Hmmm, this is a tough one. There is always going to be a trail, even from a car. If a dog trains car trails and the handler is familair with how the dog reacts to the difference, then the handler should be able to tell what type of trail the dog is on, car vs. walking. Some dogs will have trouble with car trails as the scent is def. fainter, but it's there. I know, didn't exactly help straighten things out, probably confuses the situation more. And just to confuse more, I will add that carrying a person presents a whole bunch of other issues in terms of success and training.

There is no standardized testing for these different factors, so sadly we can't look at a certification and tell what they have worked on.

sarx,

It was cold, windy the night he went missing and has been cold at night since he went missing. Frigid cold. Which is why at day three they went into "recovery" mode.

How much would cold and wind play into how well dogs can track? Could that be why they had problems getting a scent?
These are TX trained dogs and they are not used to 30 degrees weather let along 20-25 degrees which is how cold it dipped at night, the first night or two.

After 36 hours and two evenings of sub-freezing temperatures, New Braunfels police transitioned their search and rescue operation to a recovery effort fearing the child could not withstand the elements.

What is the MOST concerning is the Guadalupe River. It is almost a straight shot, 2 miles down from the residence. This river is known for rafting because of it's fast current and relatively shallow waters.

I am crying here at work. What a most darling, sweet, beautiful lil boy. He is probably so full of energy and into everything, just like my two year old son. I am also really hoping for a miracle here. I'm just not ready to let the hope go...
