Investigators brought in a large excavator to dig up roughly 4,000 yards of dirt around an abandoned well site according to the Jasper County Sheriff's Office.

The hole was approximately 40’ deep and approximately 50’ wide. Investigators say they spent most of the day sifting through dirt and debris searching for evidence

Sheriff Chuck Havard says his investigators and staff from the Jasper County District Attorneys Office went to a location near a home on County Road 418, just off of Farm to Market Road 1013, north of Kirbyville. Using an excavator, they dug a hold 40 feet deep and 50 feet wide and then sifted through approximately 4,000 cubic yards of dirt.

Monday, investigators with the Jasper County Sheriff’s Office and DA’s office searched a property off of FM 252 in Kirbyville. The search culminated in an excavator being brought in to dig up an abandoned well site. A release from the sheriff’s office says this excavation resulted in a 40-foot-deep and 50-foot-wide hole, and investigators spent the day sifting through the debris for evidence.
