TX - Joshua Thorne, 23 mos, dies of head injury, Arlington, 11 July 2007

That poor baby. The pain he must have suffered. This poor excuse of a mother didn't want to call 911 because she thought about no one but herself and the trouble she would be in if it was found out that she had the kids. Instead she let that baby lay there and die.

This woman looks like a meth user to me. I doubt if pot is really her drug of choice. I wonder where her husband was at all night to get home around 11:00 in the morning. He tried to cover their butts too by calling the grandmother first and having her come to their house and call 911.

I honestly hope the mother and her parents all end up in jail. The grandparents had custody of those babies for a reason but it looks like they put their daughters wants ahead of the safety of the babies. They all deserve to rot.

Investigators found him with black eyes; small human bite marks on his left arm, chest and face; unknown contusions on his nose; swelling on the left side of the back of his head; and dried blood on his nose and mouth, the affidavit states.

Police also found what appeared to be feces on the wall in the stairwell, possible bloodstains on a pillow on the living room couch and on a towel in the upstairs hall, <snip>

She beat the everloving dog snot outta him, IMO.

:furious::furious::furious:

I HOPE SHE ROTS IN PRISON AND NEVER KNOWS A MOMENT OF HAPPINESS AGAIN! :behindbar

:( :( Poor little guy....

ETA: Ok, maybe she didn't beat him, re-reading the article. Still, why was the staircase without a gaurdrail *AND* a babygate?! That could have been the ten month old!!!

How stupid can you get, this is absolutely appalling. Some people need to be sterilized so they cant hurt or kill any more kids.

"Thorne wasn't supposed to be alone with her children. She hadn't had custody of them for several years, a Child Protective Services spokeswoman said. Thorne's three youngest children lived with her mother in Fort Worth, and a court order stipulated that the children not be with Thorne unsupervised."

So.... A court has already stated this women was unfit?
Yet Her mother, who had custody, let her have the kids??

I am not giving this women a free pass, but the real criminal is the person who had custody and yet left the kids with her.

I don't know the age, health, work, or situation of the grandmother, but since I'm raising grandkids I tend to blame the dopeheaded mother of the kids most of all. Three toddlers is way too much for an older woman to handle all alone, but she shouldn't have left them with the mom if children's services thought there was a risk. Now, she lost the kids and will live with what happened, but I doubt if the doper will care that much . She'll probably blame everyone else.

OK.........I can *possibly* understand her being reluctant to call 911 because she wasn't supposed to be alone with the kids, BUT why didn't she call her mother OR her husband immediately???????? No excuse. Just another drugged up, used up, poor excuse of a 'mother' who cared more about what was going to happen to her than she did about her own child. Pathetic!

:clap::clap::clap: Well said Kellee.

My heart is just breaking for the little guy.

Can't think of anything nice to say about any of the characters in this whole mess except those poor children.

I have insurance. When my kid gets hurt, I take her to the doctor and it costs a co pay that sometimes is hard to pay.

She probably didn't have insurance and she doesn't look smart enough to understand that the brain could be injured. She probably assumed that the ice would reduce the swelling and he'd be fine. Had she left him lie on the floor and never got a frozen popsicle for him, I'd think poorly of her. Right now, I just feel sorry for her. Remember the bell curve of intelligence puts us who can use computers and learn and think and know things on the right hand downward slope - but that's above average. The majority of the world is in the middle, but HALF the population is either in the middle or the LOWER end where they don't think like we do.

She did what she thought would help him. It didn't. My daughter has a closed head injury from a fall, and I KNOW that if she had not broken her back in the fall as well, but had gotten up, I wouldn't have thought her brain was injured. She went to the hospital for a broken back. The head injury was discovered later by the doctors. I didn't know... and I'm pretty smart.

I don't think she's criminal and neglectful. I think she's unaware of what brain injuries can be. The majority of shaken babies die because the people have no idea. They know what they see, but they can't see the brain so they just don't KNOW. Same thing here, I believe.

It's sad, yes. She did other things wrong, perhaps - but wanting her babies with her is human nature, and you don't have to be a bad person to not know if your child is injured.

I recall my friend's boy broke his collar bone and his mom was a nurse and his dad loves him very much. They just thought he was complaining to get out of work and had him working. The guilt was horrible on them when they found out it was a broken collar bone - but you can't always tell how serious something is. I'm willing to bet she didn't know.

Certainly if she thought the child would DIE, she would have gotten him help because the trouble she'd be in if he died is worse than if she took him in for a fall. She had no idea he would die. No way.

The longest sentence possible for the abuser was two years. She is not in custody in a Texas State Facility at this time.
