The two men on trial here for the contract killing of a Mexican drug cartel lawyer in Southlake didn’t pull the trigger themselves, but they were the big game “hunting guides” who told the assassins when to take the shot.

That was how Assistant U.S. Attorney Joshua T. Burgess described the role of two cousins who are on trial for their roles in the May 2013 slaying of Juan Jose Guerrero Chapa...

Ledezma Cepeda was in constant contact with Gato in the days leading up to the murder, Burgess said. Ledezma even kept a GPS tracker on his own vehicle so that Gato would know his whereabouts. He said his cousin was in charge of “command and control” for the operation, buying air fare, registering the trackers and identifying the victim’s home.

This morning fox4 said that the FBI is involved now due to possible ' drug cartel ' connections. Crazy! This is the town I grew up in ! My folks live across from town square and my son was working a block from that scene. But I had to text my son to tell him. It was all quiet in his job and they knew nothing was going on.
This guy was on scene with some good info.

I have lived in Tarrant Co. since 1960 & Southlake is the last place in the county where I would expect violence. This was a real shocker!!

A former Mexican police officer testified Thursday morning about how he and his father started working for a drug cartel that ordered them to hunt down and track a lawyer for a rival cartel who was murdered in Southlake.

As part of his plea deal with the government, Jesus Gerardo Ledezma Campano Jr., 32, agreed to testify against his father...

He said that around 2010, he and his father both worked for the police in San Pedro, an affluent neighborhood in Monterrey that was left largely alone in the cartel battles. In addition to the city’s business elite, some gangsters lived there also.

The billionaire mayor, Mauricio Fernandez, wanted the people to think he kept the peace by enlisting a secret force of hundreds called “El Grupo Rudo,” or the Rough Group. The idea was that you needed some bad guys to keep the bad guys in check. But in fact, Grupo Rudo had only four primary members including Ledezma Cepeda, the mayor and the San Pedro police chief...

Jesus Gerardo Ledezma-Campano, 32, testified in federal court that he, his father and his father's cousin tracked the man on the orders of Beltran Leyva cartel member Rodolfo Villareal Hernandez, also known as El Gato...

He testified that El Gato spent $1 million on the operation and then rewarded Ledezma-Cepeda with a BMW and a hunting trip. He also said the killing was celebrated with a big party.

The wife of Southlake murder victim Juan Jesus Guerrero Chapa told a jury on Wednesday that her husband was warned twice by phone that he had been found by people who wanted to kill him.

Julia María Tijerina de la Garza said the first call came in the spring of 2011 when the couple lived in Grapevine. Refugio Hernandez, an agent with Homeland Security Investigations, made the call, she said. Hernandez was Guerrero Chapa’s “handler” while he was a U.S. informant... She said they left the house and never returned...

In February 2013, Guerrero Chapa received another warning by phone, she said. She said she didn’t know who called. By that time, the couple were living in Southlake. She said her husband was shocked and afraid that his enemies had found him again.
