Police Looking for Woman Missing for Nearly 20 Years

Amarillo police are hopeful someone will come forward with information to help them find a woman missing for almost 20 years.

Julie Lisa Wilkinson was 37 years-old when she was reported missing in May of 1998.

Amarillo Police investigated her disappearance but say the information they were able to receive got them nowhere.

“Investigators followed up on all of the leads they could and unfortunately those just did not pan out,” added Lt. Erick Bohannon, with the Special Crimes Unit.

It was Wilkinson’s mother who reported her missing according to Bohannon.

He says Julie had children.

Because she had been missing during important dates, the Special Crimes Unit took over the case.

“The circumstances at the time were suspicious enough for a report to be made and the investigators started working up the leads they had which there were not very made leads on this,” said Bohannon.

Police describe Wilkinson as having a distinct knot on one side of her collarbone from a broken bone.

“She wore glasses that were fairly distinctive from her photograph. Large frame glasses and again with the knot on her collarbone that would help potentially identify her. She’s 5’8, 145, brown hair, brown eyes,” added Bohannon.

Bohannon is hopeful someone will remember Julie and help them find out where she went.

“We are almost 20 years out from the time she was reported missing and so you have to take age progression into account but if somebody knows her and would recognize her from the photograph that we do have then that would be very helpful,” added Bohannon.

If you know anything about where Julie Lisa Wilkinson is, contact the Special Crimes Unit.
