Exactly. This case has never been presented correctly, in terms of probability.

If you do the research, most eyewitness testimony is about as reliable as a '76 Chevette. I'm starting to think all the folks that claim they saw the three in various stores at Seminary South might be as full of crap as Bill Hutchins. We already know they never met up with Julie's sister and her friend at noon in Murphy's. There's absolutely zero evidence they even went in the mall. Factually, the trail goes cold at the Oldsmobile.

I agree that eye witness accounts are historically unreliable. I've never even factored in the sightings at mall. And in this case, the media reports at the time were not accurate. So those too need to be taken with a grain of salt. <modsnip - discussing fb group>

I think the only way to really get through all the noise is to start from square one, stick to only what can be verified, and see where it leads you.

My memory is not much better either... But I recall there was at least one credible witness at the mall, because s/he remembered Renee's "Sweet honesty" T shirt. And that was indeed what she was wearing.

I would agree, tentatively, but I'm not sure how popular Avon's Sweet Honesty perfume and t-shirts were in the 70's. Quite possible there could have been a dozen girls with those shirts, much like Izod polo shirts for guys in the 80's.

This was a letter & answer published in the Tucson Daily Citizen for Sept 12th, 1975:

QUESTION -- Several months ago I ordered and paid for a "Sweet Honesty" T- shirt. Well, it's kind of ironic that the East Coast corporation selling them hasn't been honest 'enough to send mine. They haven't even had the courtesy to answer any of my letters, so I guess Action, Please! will have to make them live up to their name.

ANSWER -- Because of an unexpected demand for "Sweet Honesty" T-shirts, they are no longer available, a customer service official said. A refund check for $4.48 is on the way, and the company says it is "looking forward to serving you in the future."

"Unexpected demand." Sold completely out of 'em by early to mid '75. Pretty popular shirt, I'd say.

Sweet Honesty was very popular at that time.

And although I'm not saying that the witness was not truthful, LE had released the info that Renee was wearing that shirt because it was the only distinctive item of clothing among the 3. Unfortunately when the mind is given a strong description of a person-place-thing, we can very innocently truly think we've seen it.

That was also a very popular shirt in those days. It is possible it could have been somebody else wearing the same shirt.

Have the girls ever been declared dead??

Does anyone know if LE ever questioned TT after those initial first days? Or if they ever interviewed his other 4 wives?

Sweet Honesty was very popular in the 70's and I remember the t-shirt from junior high. I Googled it and the pictures from the 70's match my memory of the shirt graphic.
Sweet Honesty, Windsong and Love's Baby Soft were the fragrances young teens girls gravitated to—their first 'grownup' fragrances that didn't make you smell like your grandmother. Ironically, my mom, aunt, grandma and neighbor were Avon sales ladies!

Would be great if you could also get a sample of Rachel's writing, for comparison!

Yes it would be. Even just something with her signature.

Was there maybe a card inside the abandoned car with Rachel's reported gift for TTs son? Long shot.

For what it's worth, I am pretty compelled that either TT and RT had near identical handwriting or the same person penned both those pages.

That was Renee's gift to Shawn wasn't it?

One would think that the best chance to get Rachel's handwriting is from her family. They should have kept some momentos. Or perhaps her close friends have.

They could put the girls' signatures on the T shirts they are selling to raise funds;)

You can still order the fragrance Sweet Honesty from Avon.

Apparently on a recent podcast (JoCo) with the dive team, they mention car #2 was loaded with bricks. Far heavier than they thought it would be & a contributing factor to the failed lift on it last time. Also, the wheels and tires were removed. I can’t fathom how it got in the water that way. What the heck???
This is the car most everyone is waiting to be lifted. I too wonder how it came to be if those things are true.

If that’s true the car would likely have been brought in on a trailer or a rollback tow truck most likely.

The gift wasn't from Rachel. It was from Renee.
