Wow!

Nice to see this thread here!

I live in the "Greater Waco metropolis" (snort) and work in Waco. So, it's local to me.

Glad to see JusticeInWaco here and giving us the insider/local scoop! :woohoo: Thanks to those from afar who are also diligent in giving updates to this case.

Because of my work schedule, I doubt I can break away much to go to the courthouse, but I'd love to go on a key day or something. JusticeInWaco, as it winds down and you can keep me apprised as to when closing arguments may be, etc...I'd love to attend and maybe introduce myself.

Justice for Kari and her family! Although I didn't know her or anyone involved in this case, I'm thankful for those who have been there for her and them all this time!

Deputydawg,
I will try to help JusticeInWaco update too. Today is opening statements and then on to the trial!!!!!!!!!!!!!
So far, In Sessions is still on the dead cats case. I sure hope they are going to be live, but at least Central Texas Now is saying they will be live! I am in Ky - so I can only see this through, if one of these two comes through for me!

Matt Baker Trial Updates - 1/13/10

:35-- Judge Strother announces that one jury member is ill. Replaces her with a junior Baylor student.

9:45-- Presentation of several items of evidence including: a Bible, face mask used on Kari Lynn Baker the night of her death, two crime scene photographs, diagram of the Baker mask, and more.

Kari and Matt Baker had two daughters, a third daughter had passed away years earlier after battling a brain tumor.

9:50-- Asst. DA Shaffer gives timeline and re-telling of events

10:00-- Shaffer says investigators many hits on pharmaceutical purchasing Web sites were found on the computer used by Matt Baker. Another computer Baker used at the church also had forensic tests done on it; those results will be released later during the trial.

10:06-- Shaffer says the court will hear contradicting statements by Baker. One thing he's been consistent with: saying he loved his wife and never had an affair.

Vanessa Bulls tells a different story; that she did have an affair with Matt Baker, while his wife was still alive.

10:08-- Matt Baker's lawyer, Guy James Gray, says Kari had two lives:

Public life: she was a well-liked teacher

Private life: she was "quite a bit different" from her public life. However everything indicates that she was a "quality person." She carried the pain of losing a child tragically. On the anniversary of the child's death she would have a "little period" of sadness that would "come and go." Gray says doctors diagnosed Kari in 2006 (just weeks before her death) with depression.

BREAKING: Baker's lawyer, says that evidence indicates that Matt did have an affair with Vanessa Bulls and that both Bulls and his client lied to try to cover it up.

Is it just me, or does there seem to be a wide amount of physical space between Matt and his lawyers? He doesn't seem to talk or confer with them alot.

I think Ms. Bristol was the most interesting witness thus far.

Yes, I think Ms.Bristol was most interesting. I felt like she had more to say, but maybe it violated hearsay rules. I found her much more credible than Matt in that deposition (or anything I have seen).

Matt drank like a horse, squirmed and held his head down a bunch.

I am in overload - back later and will let you all know when I get new articles.

From the centraltexasnow.com link, and testimony moments ago:

He claims the night of her death, the Kari seemed exhausted and was dozing off and on, watching TV. She then asked him to go get gas and a movie so he says he did and when he was getting dressed and ready to leave the house the clock said. 11:11.

Matt says he knew Kari was lathargic and not feeling well, but didn't process that she might not be able to take care of herself.

Matt says Kari's eyes were droopy and she was acting "slow."

-------

Okay, if I were "exhausted and was dozing off and on, watching TV," and lethargic and not feeling well, as Matt described.............yeah, I'm sure I'd ask my hubby to go get a movie for me to watch, in order to stay up later! Was the next day a work day? (I can't recall what day of the week this was, but I thought it was mid-week?)
