GUILTY Tx - Kari Hunt Dunn, 31, Slain, Child Abducted, Marshall, 1 Dec 2013

Can you post his FB please? I had been searching for it with no luck!

From a link posted above:
"John Sargent who is the Deacon assigned to St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Marshall, Texas tells KLTV in a statement, "The family of Kari Dunn would like to respectfully request our space and time to grieve for the loss of our precious daughter, sister and mother. We are thankful for the show of love and support her family at this time."

Sargent also tell us that Kari Dunn's father is a parishioner of the church."

Something in my gut told me he had killed Kylie's mother. :( I hope Kylie's grandparents are able to take her in.

I just searched under his name: Brad Dunn. Is that article saying that he did murder his wife? If so why are there no reports about it? ty

I just read the updated news article. He did kill the mother. Oh so sad. jmo

I saw some tweets that said he had killed her but was hoping they were wrong. The poor child :( RIP Kari Dunn

I am also from the area. I was looking at his FB yesterday and saw a friend of mine who was listed as a friend of his. I was shocked. I am going to see if I can get some more info.
I've been keeping up with all the updates. KLTV 7 facebook has been doing a pretty good job, but some of the comments are way out there from people who don't have a clue. I know this family-my daughter was high school friends with a younger sister, (involved with some of the same clubs), and they are good people. This is horrible. One good thing, is the amber alert worked in this case. A civilian spotted the man, the daughter and vehicle in another town and called in. Police thought he was headed in a different direction, so without the amber alert, no telling where he would have wound up or how long it would have taken to find him. And I just got an update from my daughter. It's being reported now as a stabbing.

Can you link his fb here please? The one I saw that kind of looked like him just doesn't seem like it is because it didn't have the status posts that the articles were speaking of and I didn't see pics of Kylie either, I don't know. I am for sure missing it some how lol. I guess it isn't important anymore but I am just curious.

Marshall man charged in wife's slaying moved to Harrison County Jail
A Marshall man charged with killing his wife left her blood-covered body in the bathroom of a hotel room after stabbing and cutting her multiple times, according to an arrest affidavit filed in the City of Marshall Municipal Court.

Brad Allen Dunn, 35, was arrested Sunday in Cass County and charged with murder in connection to the death of 31-year-old Kari Rene Dunn.
Marshall police questioned an unidentified guest at the hotel who heard screaming in the hallway and when he came out of his room he saw three children standing, according to the affidavit.
The guest told police one of the children said, “I think my dad is killing my mom,” the affidavit said.
The guest told police a man, later identified as Dunn, opened the door and said he “would be out in a minute,” according to the affidavit. Once Dunn exited the room he began yelling for the children to leave with him and then grabbed the smallest girl and left.

Here is a link to Brad Dunn's Facebook page. One thing that jumped out at me is that his posts were private until Kari left him. Then he made pictures public and made sad comments about his life. He made his profile photo to be their wedding picture. (This looks very contrived to me). They had separated about 2 weeks earlier. Kari and Brad had lived in Lindale. Kari moved with the children to Marshall, TX where her mother lives. On that Sunday, Brad checked into a hotel where Kari took the children for a visit with their father. He ambushed her and murdered her in front of the children. The 9 year old daughter tried to call 911 but couldn't get an outside line since it was inside a hotel.

Tragic...I haven't been able to get this case out of my mind.

This is the body of the petition which has been started by Hank Hunt, Kari's father.

On December 1, 2013 Kari Rene Hunt was brutally murdered in front of her children ages 9, 4 and 3. She was killed by her estranged husband whom she was intending to divorce. She agreed to meet him at a local motel to leave the children with him for a short visitation.

Her estranged husband, Brad Allen Dunn, apparently ambushed her in the motel room and cornered her in the restroom. During the struggle and resulting death of Kari, her oldest daughter, age 9, (name with held for privacy) attempted to dial 911 from the motel room phone. She followed instructions as taught by her mother on the way to call for help but she was never instructed that in some hotels and motels you must first dial a "9" and then 911.

We are attempting to ensure that any person needing police, EMS or the Fire Department at any hotel or motel location may be able to dial the numbers 911 and receive emergency response. In a panic, any under age child, or for that matter anyone in an emergency situation should be able to depend on dialing 911 from any phone in the United States and receiving assistance.

We pray the lawmakers in our Congress and Senate hear the cries of Kari and her children and enact a law requiring all hotel and motel chains, including all "Mom & Pop" locations have all phone systems updated to accept 911 as an emergency call and be connected automatically to emergency dispatch and to begin using the number "8" for an "outside" line or update all phone systems to the e911 systems.

We also would like to ask that Wyndham Hotels, which is the parent company of Baymont Inns and Suites where this incident occured, lead the way in the industry by updating the antiquated phone systems still used in some of their hotels. Seconds count and when a 9 year old little girl is mature and brave enough to attempt to dial for help, she should be answered. We understand the cost implications and know that E911 has been a requirement for a few years, but only a handful of states require it.

We ask the United States Congress to make it a requirement for all hotel and motels operating the United States and offer conversion assistance where needed. Please help make this "Kari's Law".

A sentencing hearing for an East Texas man charged in the death of his wife continued Wednesday with the defense presenting its case. Brad Allen Dunn, 35, pleaded guilty Monday to first-degree murder in a Harrison County court.

An autopsy, revealed at the hearing, showed 21 stab wounds and eight cut wounds to Kari. It was also noted that there was a stab wound to the jugular and a stab wound to a vertebrae in the neck in which a folding knife was left in the wound...

Dunn said his marriage with Kari started off well and they were happy. He said he didn't understand when she broke up with him and that it felt like "10 years was nothing." He began to tear up on the stand, saying "I just didn't want her to leave."

From March:

On Thursday, the jury sentenced Dunn to 99 years in prison, plus a fine of $10,000.

From last month:

A potentially life-saving law that emerged from an East Texas tragedy could get a boost nationally from successful efforts to enact Kari's Law across the Lone Star State...

Her daughter did what most parents teach their kids to do in an emergency — she dialed 911," Gohmert said on the House floor in Washington, a speech rebroadcast on YouTube. "And (she) got nothing." The motel line required callers to dial 9 before reaching an outside line, a common feature in institutional and business phone systems.

That was so until now in Texas, where lawmakers this spring passed a state version of Kari's Law.

Opening arguments in the wrongful death civil jury trial began Monday. The lawsuit was filed in November 2015 by Kari’s father, Hank Hunt, on behalf of Kari’s estate and her children.

Defendants in the case are OM Lodging LLC and Kari’s husband, Brad Dunn, who is serving a life sentence for her death.
