In my opinion, these are all perspectives of the same story. They just depend on whose perspective you ask. And there are language barriers. From the perspective of the cousin, her husband saw Kayla in the lobby when he was leaving with his two year old. From the perspective of the mother, Kayla was in the lobby and when the mother "turned around" after talking to her friends, Kayla was gone. From the perspective of others, Kayla was in one of the chairs before she was gone.

Lol I'm so confused, I thought the children were in the lobby the grown ups in another room. The cousins husband left early taking his child with him.

I was thinking on this yesterday after additional information came out that she was in the lobby playing with the baby. It seems logical that someone at the church took the child. The church has a Hispanic side and and English side from what I understand. I wouldn't think she would have gone out side, but possible. It only takes a moment to abduct. My thought last night was that I hope they have searched the building inside and out, rafters, grounds, could she have been playing hide and seek and got hurt or lost? She's been missing for too long at this point to not think the worse. I wish there was a little more information like, were both sides having a pray meeting? Nobody saw anything? You would think if a child was abducted in a church lobby, she would have been screaming and kicking, right? Unless it was someone she was familiar with or trusted.

What I do not understand is......why leave this child alone in the foyer after taking your child?
Why not make sure she is left with someone.

Hindsight is 20/20. But I don't find this odd for a small church family.

Her Mother and others were in the general vicinity. It wasn't like he literally left her by herself. There is a video upstream of the interior of the Church. It helps your perspective to see how small it is and the layout.

I can see doing that. This is a small group of people who gather weekly for prayer, the child was waiting in the lobby for her own mother who was finishing up chatting with the others within viewing distance/earshot, and everyone knew each other and were filing out.

I go to a much larger church, and children her age go from their Sunday school class into the lobby/pick up areas/cafe area unattended at the time services and Sunday school lets out.

They were in the lobby but the mother was in the sanctuary - if not in eyeshot, she was within earshot, if I understand it correctly. If she screamed out the adults in the sanctuary would have heard her.

I am feeling like Kyron Hormon, too. That child was taken in full view of who knows how many people who all know each other - how brazen - and yet not one person saw him leave.

Prayer meetings are typically on Wednesday nights, not Tuesdays so maybe the Hispanic church met on Tuesdays and English on Wednesdays.

I attend a rather large church, and our Bible study night is Tuesday.

I don't think I'd leave a child alone in an empty foyer. No matter where.
But that's me. I probably would have told her to go inside with the others .
Some bad things happen in churches we all have seen that.

There is a video of the church, the lobby, the sanctuary, and the parking lot view through the lobby windows. You have to scroll down a couple posts and see the male reporter's video. It's kind of irritating because he does the video in "selfie" style, so that he's kind of in the way the whole time of you getting a clear view.

This much is clear: you can see the lobby from the sanctuary, and you can see the full view of the parking lot from the lobby. Anyone glancing around from the lobby - and some in the sanctuary - would have full view of the parking lot. It just defies belief that anyone could take that child in any way that would attract attention - she must have gone quietly, and willingly.

When I was little, I attended churches without designated areas for children except for Sunday School. During prayer and singing nights, we stayed with the adults until the main services were over, and when the adults were enjoying fellowship and talking to others, we kids would run all over, play games, and basically just act like kids. Usually, we went into the front of the buildings or outside in he parking lot. I don't see anything unusual about her being away from the adults...those things can get very boring for a child. After sitting quiet for the services, it was good to get the wiggles and giggles out afterward. Things are a lot different in bigger churches, IME with my kids. Things are more structured, with designated people to watch little ones.

At some point, you have to balance risk with life - and 10 year olds need to know how to navigate getting from their Sunday school classroom to the lobby, just as 10 year olds need to navigate getting from their classroom onto their bus in elementary schools - or out into the car waiting line, or to their after school care area.

I agree. And the truth of it is, a child can't grow to maturity if they are always supervised completely by an adult. It would be stifling if they sometimes didn't have to rely on themselves to learn to get around - and it would IMHO create a bit of a paranoid child if they thought they couldn't stand in the lobby of that little church waiting for mom to finish up chatting.

From watching the video of the church, I can easily see a parent being comfortable with a ten year old waiting for them in the lobby area

Did you see the video/pictures of the inside of the church? There are glass door between the sanctuary (where the other adults were possibly standing) and the very small lobby area. Even if they left Kayla in the lobby alone she was still within eyesight of other adults not far away through the full glass doors. It is a very small church building and I think seeing the pictures makes it more clear what the dynamics probably were.

Jmo I do not feel the lobby is the safest place to have your children wait if they are alone only because this is where everyone enters and exits.
So where were all the other kids?

It is difficult to tell from the way the story is being reported who actually saw her last.
At least it is confusing for me...
I am not sure if it was her cousin's husband or if it was her mom

Did Kayla attend the same service/meeting as her mother or was there a separate one for the children (I think I read something about that yesterday)
