Recap on what happened Saturday afternoon

Say again, was working an investigative lead, it was not a tip

Went to the property, lifted the lid in the well and discovered the body

Identified several different vehicles belonging to companies Gustavo Zavala worked for. Those have been searched/are being searched, ongoing investigation

He wasn't physically deported in 2014?? It was still in the process?

received consent to search (written) from Gustavo and wife.

Body discovered in well.

So as not to only rely on the consent to search we backed out secured scene and secured search warrants proper.

never left the scene while awaiting those warrants.

wont discuss details of evidentiary value.

we feel we have very good handle on what happened via timeline and witnesses statements.

2014 charged with DV - was detained - ICE threshhold. Was PR and givena trial date and appeared without attorney later, was given more time to obtain attorney and was to report back here shortly (the date to report had not happened yet). He was never actually deported was still actively involved in teh 14 DV violence case, hadn't been adjudicated yet.

next speaker thanking personally investigators from various agencies who all worked in conjunction to resolve this case.

Resources - both equipment and personnel supplied were instrumental.

Described the person who had to be strapped to a tripod and lowered into the well to retreive body around midnight. Pray for those who have had to see what they saw. That fireman who had to pull up little Kayla from the well.

What we saw, how people stepped up, pray for them, if you see them - walk over and let them know you support them. It means so much to them.

As a citizen, I cannot thank the men and women involved, refusing to go home after 25 35 hours, I want to tell them thank you.

Kayla has become a part of everyone in this community. Her story has become our story. She has become our own daughter.

We are gonna get justice for her. Not a man or woman in this county who hasn't approached this case in a way they would want for their own daughter.

We support your need to know. We appreciate that. There are some things we cannot tell. We will answer questions but some things we cant answer - jeopardize the criminal prosecution.

Won't release any info that is not significant or need to know. Want case tried in Smith county. Concerns for releasing more than needed and messing that up.

When we first did consent search the Gustavos were there. Body found quickly, they were removed and we pulled back to await warrants.

Do not believe wife had anything whatsoever to do with it.

Will look at everything and decide that down teh road. It is early to decide that right now.

If it was about 7:30 pm he took her. He lives 3 miles up the road.

He did what he did and threw he in the well still alive didn't he?
