No cause of death? She was found at the end of November so not likely to die from dehydration (she was less than 100 miles from the border). Also someone saw the child the day before but doesn’t know if they were alive? Strange.

Super weird to have no cause of death, I agree. Sounds like her remains were intact and nowhere near skeletal. That town is teeny-tiny. Those layers of cardigans could mean that she was transient or perhaps just didn't have a warm enough coat. It usually doesn't get very cold that far south in Tx, though. She had a decent amount of money, too. The whole thing is odd.

Height but no weight??? Stretch marks indicate integrity of skin in this amateur's opinion.

Pre-teen as described with stretch marks? Was she trying to get into the US for medical treatment, recent weight fluctuation due to disease process?

Yes, the whole thing is odd!

Very odd. That's a good chunk of money for a kid to have at that age. The lack of info is frustrating. Recognizable face but no info on height or cause of death. How was she found? Lying down? Sitting up? If she was in a sitting position I can see how someone may not have though much when they saw her the day before but if she was lying there I can't imagine that would have looked normal.
I'm not sure the stretch marks mean anything. I have way more stretch marks from a 20 lb growth spurt in the 6th grade than from having children. I was a scrawny kid (and have grown into a scrawny adult) so 20 lbs was a lot a weight.

why was it known she was there the day before?

It seems this case wasn't investigate very well...maybe the LE thought "who cares, she's just another immigrant from Mexico".
It's odd, but sometimes it happens... :(

Quite possible especially with the current political policies on asylum seekers.
This little girl's clothing do indicate a lack of resources (for example the sash tied through the belt loops of her skirts was tattered and appeared to have been torn from another garment). But regardless of her circumstances, she is someone's baby and deserves to be ID. @othram how about this one?

The maroon sash is a different item than the torn pink floral fabric that held her money.

I expect that this fabric tied above her skirt waistband was to hide the money under her clothes. A check of her pockets -- no money.

Would like to know more about her appearance & her situation!

JMHO YMMV

And, the map pin today seems to be some sort of exotic animal park???

Unless zebras are common is your neighborhood....

Occurred to me that the place name includes the word "railroad." If the remains were near a rail line (active at the time) someone on a train may have noticed a person but be unable to stop & investigate.

JMHO YMMV

Bumping up for this child. Can they really not estimate an age range?

Since 1993. It's been too long.

She needs to be identified for the sake of her family, who must be very sad, wondering what happened to their child. They may have been desperate at the time. It appears she was simply in search of a new, positive future.

Bumping up again. I wonder if she was with a group of migrants but something happened, they had to continue on without her. Perhaps she became ill. Poor girl, I hope you do get your name back.

  • #13
From the description she appeared to be in early puberty. Sometimes, when a child at this developmental stage experiences a rapid growth spurt, they develop stretch marks like this child had. They probably mean nothing in terms of her general health.

Bumping case up. It's a pity she was recognizable but no reconstruction was released. Was DNA obtained? Sigh.

TBH I think this happens all the time.
