Jurors on Friday sentenced a Richardson woman to the maximum 20 years in prison for causing a traumatic head injury to a 13-month-old girl she had been babysitting in 2008.
Alice Steele, a 46-year-old former friend of Kiajah Shaw’s father... claimed that she called 911 after Kiajah choked on a Lego block while in her care on Feb. 25, 2008. The block was never found, and paramedics saw no evidence Kiajah had choked. Instead, they found the girl unresponsive with a head injury that left her blind and brain damaged.
Kiajah suffocated in her crib 10 months later because her injuries prevented her from turning over.
