8-month-old baby kidnapping staged, suspect arrested

It was previously reported that CD posted bail, was released Sunday morning, and was helping with search efforts.

According to last presser Monday eve, the only person in custody at this time is the alleged female kidnapper, and her name not released until arrest paperwork completed. She's also been identified by LE as CD's cousin.

Even if King is alive and was left outside it was too cold for him to survive. It is pretty much the same weather as in PHX. Too cold for me at night. It has been getting down into the 30's and 40's (Fahrenheit). I cannot imagine a small child being out there in a onesie.

Police identified the person who stole the car as Christopher Davila's cousin, who was arrested and charged for an unrelated offense. McManus said another person dropped off the woman who took the vehicle about a block away from the gas station on an adjoining street.



Police believe King Jay Davila was not inside the vehicle at the time of the staged kidnapping. The car was found later nearby Rodriguez Park with the baby and keys missing.


King Jay Davila's mother, Jasmine Gonzales, disputed McManus' account of the evenet.

"Everything they're saying that my fiance has a part of this whole kidnapping is wrong I was on the phone with him the entire time," Gonzales said.

The live video with baby in background was very strange. Especially adding in mom was fb friends with them. I hope it was a scheme to start a gofundme and not the other options. Either way, poor baby!

Hopefully that's the baby and he's ook.. Rumor was that they sold the baby for meth..... It's not a nice option but better than other possibilities ...And it would explain the baby in the video

I think LE has a bunch of evidence they are not releasing since they are being so bold in their statements about foul play, no child in car, staging etc.

Please find this baby hidden and not deceased!

LE has stated that other family members are providing information, but also emphasizing that withholding information or being untruthful with LE may result in charges.

I don’t like that they are continuing to search the park. They certainly aren’t looking for an alive baby there.

I know someone asked about the other 9 kids. One lady posted on FB that she is the mom of King Jay's 2 older brothers who she has custody of and the maternal grandma has custody/keeps at least 2 of King Jay's moms kids. Not sure on the rest of the kids. The mom is pregnant. I keep hoping she is not involved but her using past tense really bugs me. She is standing by the dad even after his cousin was identified as the one that took the car. I hope they find that baby but mostly I hope he isnt in pain.

Interesting to know maternal grandma also responsible for caring for the children.

Police Chief stated during his initial presser that baby KJ was being cared for by CD's mother or baby's paternal grandma when he was picked up and taken to store with Dad CD to purchase bottle of water. Chief was emphatic from the beginning that CD's story was not checking out, and used words alleging CD and suspect were believed to be in cahoots. On Friday night, that was already pretty damning, IMO.

I agree they are not searching park. In fact, baby mom made announcement Monday morning that they (family/friends) were not going to search park as planned, but were switching their efforts to distributing flyers.

That’s good. I thought in press conference they mentioned going back, but even better if they aren’t!

SAPD chief: Tale of kidnapped infant 'made up to cover foul play'

“We can say without a doubt that this was not a car theft, this was not a kidnapping,” SAPD Chief William McManus said Monday during an update into the Friday disappearance of King Jay Davila. “This was a staged event as we had said previously.”

“Even if you are not directly involved in this, if you are withholding information, if you have lied to the police, then we will charge you at the conclusion of this investigation,” McManus said.

Investigators said they have obtained details of what occurred from family members, but they are still looking “everywhere” to find King Jay.

That seems more accurate and has more info than the one if seen before. Especially, ““Rodriguez Park was due diligence,” McManus said. “We had to search the body of water in there.””

If that was my son the police are suspecting of foul play, and he's out on bond, he WOULD tell me where my Grandson is or be pleading for his life, his choice.

"closed" -- not baby found yesterday, not solved yesterday, but 'closed'.

I get what you’re saying and I’m right there with you, but to be fair, that is a direct quote from the Police Chief about the mom’s feelings, not necessarily what came out of her mouth.

I can think of two reasons a cousin would get involved. 1) Monetary or other gain or 2) to protect someone. I wonder if Davila and Torres share a grandmother. I would say LE has everything figured out except where that cutie pie is. So sad because I can’t imagine this ending well.
ETA, duh, of course they share a grandmother. I meant, *that* grandmother.
