we don't know why the homeowner picked Feb 13 to "search". We don't even know the reason he went to the back part of his property and whether it constituted a search.

Some are perhaps assuming he went to search.

if I have learned anything on this site, it's not to assume.

I understand that, per the first article I linked, the cause of death is suicide, manner is asphyxiation, pending toxicology reports. It is unclear to me, as of this hour 1 am ET, if those reports are complete.

I would expect they can determine if this was an unassisted suicide, or an involuntary hanging. In either case I can accept their findings and my wholehearted sympathy for the family remains. It is, either way, a hard hard thing to bear.

The last two weeks in Texas have been cold...even in San Antonio. I am thinking that if these homeowners were retired, they may have stayed inside. The 13th was the first day it started finally warming up. If they went outside, they would have most likely smelled decomposition. I once lived on a plot that was long and narrow and about 1/2 acre larger than theirs. A decomposing person on a lot that size would be noticeable if you were outside. The cold temperatures would slow, but not stop, decomposition. Even though it has been freezing most nights, it has not been freezing for 24 hours periods. That would be my guess for why she was discovered when she was.

I think the internet trolls crawled out from under their rocks and it probably just got too painful and time-consuming to moderate. JMO

You are absolutely right Lilibet. That is exactly what happened, although I am not sure most people realized what was going on with the barrage of negativity that flooded the page after the news release. Very sad since thousands of supporters were relying on that page for information....and then understanding when she was found.

I am just now coming back, after a day away. My heart is still broken over this ending. I think when we thought we had something to sleuth, we had some hope. The rug was pulled out from us. Just too sad.

Has it been reported that the smell of decomposition drew the owner to that area of their property?

No I read that he wanted to check the bamboo behind the sheds. My guess is when he went to sheds, then he must have smelt something.

With the music popping up on-thread, a look at the travel blog:

The next day was the music festival day…the whole reason we happened upon Cavelossim Beach. We made the 5 km walk down the beach to where the concert would take place.

Once we discovered the venue we noticed something was missing. The band we came to see wasn't on the schedule!? This was very disappointing since we were looking forward to seeing them for quite some time. After we shook off the hurt and anger we were forced to tell ourselves once again, "It's about what you're doing not what you're not doing." Blah! It still hurts but the positive side is that we got to see three of the biggest Indie Rock bands in India.

Apparently the American band AWOLNATION was the band that dropped out of the music festival, disappointing Josh and Leanne.

American electro-rock act AWOLNATION are no longer headlining day one of Live From The Console’s Goa edition. The two-day fest will take place on December 29th and 30th will close with an hour-long set by American indie duo Cults on day one.

As a baby-boomer, I had never heard of AWOLNATION, so I googled. Their songs have some very dark lyrics. "Sail" contains the line "Maybe I should kill myself" and repeats "Blame it on my A.D.D" (said to stand for Alcohol and Drug Dependency). A quick scan of other song lyrics was depressing and there seemed to be a subtle message that death is a relief IMO. :(

Even though this is apparently music they liked, personally I don't want to post any of it. It may not have influenced Leanne to commit suicide, but in my experience, music can have a powerful effect on emotions. JMO

That is what I read as well. I know the lots are large in that area, but I would imagine when the winds shift, at some point even with the colder temps, after almost a month there would have been a noticeable odor just walking out your front door. Morbid and disturbing to talk about, but trying to understand all the events that led up to the discovery of her body, it is another mystery to this case that leaves so many questions rather than answers at this point.

Wow, we were doing the exact same thing!

Is there any way I can send my condolences to Josh and the family (other than on fb)?

Lilibet, let me know if you want me to take that song out of my post.

I'm SO glad you posted this. It's totally different from the songs I ran across. I can see Leanne dancing to this. Thanks!

Oh good, I thought maybe I should edit it out after reading your first post about AWOLNATION.

Leanne had mentioned several times on their travel blog that she had ADD (attention deficit disorder). She said a couple times that her ADD was acting up and she needed to jump rope to help relieve it.

She also said once (it may have been Josh writing that entry) while going into one of the cathedrals, that "Leanne needed to ask forgiveness for being so impatient lately." I can't remember what country they were in at the time.

I'm pretty sure her ADD wasn't alcohol /drug dependency. Josh (or her?) said she drank very little compared to him. However, there are several photos where she's drinking wine or beer.

I too am a baby boomer and have never heard of that band.

ADD and OCD sometimes go hand in hand. That can lead to anxiety and depression. Ask me how I know.

Sometimes your brain.doesn't.stop.

If she was anti-meds, as many uber healthy people are (maybe she was?) she was going untreated for a loooooong time.

Poor honey. Heartbreaking.

I don't feel in the mood to listen to this band right now, just want to know what kind of music are they doing?

I love the variety of music we are all coming up with for Leanne. Some I've never heard. Thank you all!

Leanne loved to dance. That made me think of Jackson Browne's classic "For a Dancer" written about a dancer friend of his who died tragically. Browne has written several songs about death. His wife committed suicide, so he understands the pain. On this version in concert, he is accompanied on the violin by David Lindley, who played on the original.

In memory of Leanne, a lovely dancer who has touched us all.

And I can't help feeling stupid standing 'round
Crying as they ease you down
'cause I know that you'd rather we were dancing
Dancing our sorrow away

Elainera, I picked up in the original audio interview with the police chief after the body was found, her mention of bamboo. Given the content of the interview there was no specific reason for her to mention bamboo unless it was part of the story. Then we have this interview -

http://www.ksat.com/news/neighbor-discovers-body-of-bearden/-/478452/24472026/-/e94fvoz/-/index.html

A person does not need to have a lot of elevation to hang oneself; a drop is not needed necessarily. It can be done from any height above the body line/lying down even.
