A Texas man has been arrested for allegedly kidnapping a woman who claims she has been held captive in his garage for about four or five years, according to court documents reviewed by PEOPLE.
Lee Carter, 52, was arrested on Thursday, nearly nine months after police responded to a Houston, Texas home after the victim contacted 911, according to Harris County court records.

Court documents state that on April 7, 2023, Carter gave the woman access to his laptop, at which point she used a Text Now app on his device to contact 911 dispatch and relay that she was being held against her will.
The responding officer observed the woman in Carter's garage was 5'2", extremely malnourished ("weighing approximately 70 pounds") and told him she had not showered in two months. When the garage was pried open by members of Houston Fire Department, authorities discovered a mattress covered in "fresh vomit," bags of chips and Twinkies, a "makeshift toilet" and dripping faucet. The woman's hair was "crusty," according to documents, and her clothes were "filthy dirty."
A stack of shirts and diapers was found in the vicinity. She told officers that she pleaded with Carter daily to release her from captivity, and subsisted largely on snacks, never getting a full meal.

"At one point, maybe a year ago now, the cops come banging on my door claiming somebody had called from inside the house and was kidnapped or not able to leave on her own," neighbor Jedediah Beights said.
"Right then, as the cops are standing at my door, a gal comes crawling out that window just there, just clawing her way out, pregnant, eight months."
The accusations against him are so concerning that a judge cleared the room before reading aloud court documents and setting his bond at $100,000.
Carter is accused of picking up a pregnant woman while she was panhandling in south Houston and then bringing her to his house.
The woman told police Carter locked her up, raped her, and forced her to take drugs, including crack cocaine, for years.

Lee Carter, 52 — also known as Viper — was formally charged Thursday after Houston police responded to his home last year on a report of a kidnapping, according to a complaint obtained by HuffPost. There, officers found the woman, who told them that she had been trapped inside, the document said.
The woman told police that she was abducted about four or five years prior while pregnant and panhandling on the street.
According to the complaint, Carter had approached the woman to give her $1 and later returned to ask if she needed help, before telling her to get in his car. The woman told officers that she was “vulnerable” and, “against her better judgement,” got into his vehicle to leave with him.
When the woman arrived at Carter’s home, she was allegedly locked inside his garage. After that point, Carter repeatedly forced her to do drugs and have sex with him, only feeding her “chips and snacks,” police said.

In one instance, the woman said that she tried to escape when fire department and police personnel arrived at Carter’s home. The woman recalled breaking a window in the garage and crawling out, but “she ended up getting taken to the hospital, where [Carter] ... picked her up” to take her back to his residence, the complaint said.

It’s unclear whether the woman gave birth and, if so, what happened to the baby.
