It is good to see you again .... we have been together here for over a year, since last September, waiting and caring. I have worrried over the paternal grandparents for so long. I do hope they have community support through and after this. Their pain will not end with the trial.

The prosecutor said that Leiliana was "passed around a lot." Things like that have to sting for them. They didn't pass her off, she was taken from them.

I truly hope that after the trial, more healing for them can begin to take place.

I truly hope that after the trial, more healing for them can begin to take place.

I know they tried so hard to protect her. They spoke up, called CPS, were torn when they had to return her to her mother ..... they tried! I ache for them every time I see anything about Liliana.

*Trial Continues (Day 5)-Closing Arguments (@ 9am CT) - TX - Leiliana Rose Wright (4) (March 13, 2016) (beaten to death for drinking bro’s juice) – *Charles Wayne Phifer (34) (BF) indicted (8/16/17) with 2 counts of capital murder and 1 count felony injury of a child; held on $1M bond; plead not guilty.
8/3/18: Still awaiting DNA results, same of 8/6 & 8/9.
8/9/18 Update: Still awaiting DNA results, hearing continued to 10/9 & set trial date.
10/9/18 Update Day 1: Trial started today. Opening statements. State Witnesses: Andrew Grondin, EMT. Jeri Quezada, so-called “mother” of Leiliana.
10/10/18 Update Day 2: State Witnesses: Jeri Quezada. Adeline Carr, a retired swim coach, Quezada’s mother, grandmother of Leiliana, showed no emotion as she testified about the last time she saw the 4 year old asleep. Admitted that her daughter can be a liar.
10/11/18 Update Day 3: State Witnesses: Jeri Quezada. Grand Prairie police sergeant Brad Makovy. Thursday Grand Prairie police sergeant Brad Makovy. Samantha Chandler, GPPD. Charles Phifer received an automatic life sentence for killing Leiliana Wright, his girlfriend's daughter, in 2016.

The crime was so awful that even the judge said he believes Phifer deserves a fate similar to what he put that little girl through. After the verdict, the judge had harsh words for the defendant. He said in his 28 years of handling hundreds of murder cases, he thinks this is the worst case he’s ever seen.

“What you did was monstrous and salvage,” Judge Robert Burns told Phifer. “You and Jeri did monstrous things to that little girl.”

Phifer showed little emotion as he heard a scathing rebuke from Judge Burns.

“Life in prison seems insufficient,” the judge said. “Hanging a little girl in a closet is savage. You should die in a locked closet.”

Jeri Quezada will be sentenced for injury to a child on Wednesday. Under a plea agreement, she is expected to get 50 years.

Victims will then make statements to both perpetrators.
