Sorry about that SideKick! :blushing: You are right, that was rude and uncalled for. I apologize to everybody participating in the thread.

Merry Christmas!

Thank you ClaireNC :)

I don't like centering people out, nor do I like to 'give people h$ll', just not my style, so it bothered my sensitive soul.

I appreciate your post very much.

All the best to you,
SK

You know I was thinking about the comments about Lori not being able to talk much about her past or her interests. If she were pretending to be a bit younger than she actually was, she would have even had to be careful about mentioning music that was popular as she was growing up. Her assumed age is approximately my age and if I were to discuss music I grew up with you would figure out my age pretty quickly. The same would go with TV shows, certain hobbies, toys she may have liked as a kid, and so many other things. I wonder if she seemed like an unusually quiet person.

Oh Havok, I didn't mean to embarrass you when I typed that! It was more that I was thinking to myself, "this is a great discussion, we talked about it before, but I don't remember where we netted out." When I get a chance I might try to go back and find some of the earlier discussion.

I seem to remember from that discussion that there was a book published in the mid-1980's that gave a step-by-step guide to changing your identity. Also there were "brokers" of sorts that you could pay to help you do it.

Keep in mind that this was done before the internet became popular. Research was typically done in a library, not on a home computer.

No biggie Claire. There's just so much discussion on this that deep down, I kinda knew what I was saying surely had to be discussed somewhere. Plus it seems as though the discussion on this case has slowly tapered off since June/July.

I truthfully only case across it because I was searching on WS for cases involving Nebraska (where I live). Though Nebraska seemingly has nothing to do with LR, 402 is the area code for Omaha/Lincoln, which I'm sure someone must have mentioned somewhere regarding the 402 months on the notes sheet.

I've been trying to determine if LR had the correct DOB for BT's parents on her passport application. I cant seem to find a confirmed DOB for TT or RW, but I think it's relevant one way or another.

If they are correct, then to me, that really increases the likelihood that she has some connection to this family, however tangential it may be. It's extremely hard to accurately find this information in 2013 with the help of the internet, and I think it would have been next to impossible to find this information in 1990.

If they aren't correct, maybe there's a reason she picked them. She listed their DOBs on the passport application as 3/3/42 (TT) and 12/7/46 (RW). March 3rd, 1942 was date of the Attack on Broome during WW2 where Japanese Fighter Pilots attacked refueling port in Western Australia. December 7, 1946 would have been the 5 year anniversary of the attack on Pearl Harbor.

It may just be a huge coincidence, but if the DOB's are not correct, it could give credence to the belief I saw on here that LR came from a military background. At the very least it's interesting that the 2 days she picked for her parents birthdays correspond to surprise Japanese Air attacks during WW2.

Yes, you are right, there are also the pictures in these articles. Which are also in this post, Websleuths Crime Sleuthing Community - View Single Post - TX - "Lori Ruff", Longview, WhtFem (UP 9863), *General Discussion and Theories*

We do have a "photos only" thread here. Photos Only *NO DISCUSSION* - Websleuths Crime Sleuthing Community

Have you found any other pictures?

Thanks for the links and no, I'm sorry I don't have any images that are not already linked to by yourself and others in the thread. Though I will double check to see if I might be able to add any.

I'm sorry also for the late response. We've had a loss in our family and it's really been all I can keep up with lately.

FWIW, I made a follow up call to NAMUS this morning to see if we can have someone take a closer look at "Denise Sheehy's" (NAMUS #5533) to see if she can be either considered or excluded as a match.

I personally feel her facial features (the V shape of their lower part of her faces and ears along with their pronounced eye brow lines) are something to consider along with the fact that the ages fit.

Claire, if you do go back and look for the discussion, I had also found that there was a young man that worked for one of the ultralight flight places who wrote a book about changing your identity and I wondered out loud whether they knew each other. I can't remember is name and don't know what thread it was in.

Very interesting coincidence? I am going to copy and paste what you wrote here, for discussion...

Okay, so I'm just throwing this out there on this thread because I don't know where else to put it and because this seems to be the most active thread right now. I started researching powerchute schools in nevada, arizona, california and texas. I found the following one in Texas. Check out the Cute captain (who by the way and IMO may look a little but like FLEK), but that's not the point of this post. Check out the other links that talk about the book this "captain" may have written. Not sure what the other book is, I'm still looking into it. I'm thinking it's the same guy.... same middle name....same State.... that wrote the book. Not certain though.

I don't know where FLEK got her powerchuting certificate but she may have gotten more than just powerchuting lessons if she went to this school and knew this captain. It could also be a weird coincidence and this guy may not have been the author of the book.

Just too weird......

I just read the descriptions on Amazon and did some mugshot searches. I think you might be onto something. The captain and the author look like the same guy. Notice his birthday is on the pilot's license and search for mugshots. The timeline and Dallas, Texas location. The flying school...

I think this is worth sending to the SSI investigator.

Some of the description and comments from Amazon:
"had three Texas I.D. cards/driver licenses/social security card from 1993-1994 until his arrest for selling counterfeit birth certificates to illegal immigrants. This book is based on his personal experiences."
"a three-time federal ex-con who was imprisoned for providing new identities to more than 1,100 illegal immigrants over 3 years,"
"Co-authored by DS (an alias)"

I was snooping around for ideas in the historical events of 1988. Interesting thought....Carlos Lehder Rivas was a drug cartel who was convicted on May 19th (the day before an application was made for BST's birth certificate). It also states on Wiki that....

"George Jung allegedly said that Lehder kept countless files and constantly took notes."

"To that end, he enlisted his bunkmate, former marijuana dealer George Jung, as a future partner. Jung had experience flying marijuana to the US from Mexico in small aircraft, staying below radar level, and landing on dry lake beds."

"Within weeks of sending that letter in the fall of 1995, Lehder was whisked away into the night, according to several protected witnesses at the Mesa Unit in Arizona. While many believe he could have been released, others consider that this is not true. Carlos Lehder's brother, Federico Guillermo Lehder Rivas, who operated on the periphery of the business, might have been mistaken for Carlos, causing the reports of Carlos' being free and living overseas."

It is also said that he is the son of a Columbian mother and German father. However, he was born in 1949. It is a real touchy area to explore, so I will retreat on this one.

I haven't posted in a long time, but I've kind of kept up with this case.

Back in the late 1980's, I was searching for my birth parents, and I was doing at least similar things back then to what 'Lori' was probably doing. Of course, there wasn't tech back then like there is now, and things were just done differently.

I remember contacting a company (have no idea of the name now, though) who, for a fee, sent me documents listing all people by a certain name in the U.S., along with addresses and phone numbers if they weren't unlisted. One name gave me 176 listings.

Back then I was able to get birth certificates, death certificates, DMV records, and even hospital records with very little trouble. They're harder to get now, and I would guess the hospital records would be almost impossible if you aren't doing something shady to get your hands on them. I also was able to get microfiche from newspapers from other places through my library, and no one thought anything of it, because genealogy was becoming popular at the time, and people were crawling out of the woodwork to look things up.

I went to at least five different courthouses, big and small, during this time, and every one of them basically turned me loose in their records rooms with little to no supervision.

I eventually had help with my search, but when I started out, I was on my own figuring out what to do as I went along. Just going by my experience, I feel if I had been interested in a fake identity, it wouldn't have been that hard to figure out what to do and how to do it, so I find it very plausible 'Lori' would be able to do this by herself.

Great perspective, Lanie! In the late 1980's I was involved with helping adopted people find their birth parents. Records were certainly easier to obtain at that time. FLEK could have done this by herself, especially if she used one of the books published at the time. I think the big question about her ability to do this might be her age. If she was 18 at the time of the name change, she might have needed help, but if she was in her mid to late 20's she would have the resources and maturity to figure it out on her own. I am speaking from my experience, at I was in my late 20's and helping teens and young adults mostly in the 18 to 20 year old age group.

On the other hand, once you started looking into things like identity, records and adoption papers, it also became easy to find "brokers" that were willing to help for a fee.

Were you able to find out what his book Inspired By an Angel is all about?

Hmmm, I'm looking at the pictures of Rivas and Doolin. I'm thinking they have a slight resemblance. Related?
Rivas is currently in the Prison Witness Protection Program.

that guy has a criminal record also. He is super shady. just google his email addresses and his other businesses. sad.

a link to his book online:

http://www.scribd.com/doc/75936062/...-your-identity-and-erase-bad-credit-ebook-pdf

I was being polite/staying within TOS and not posting those links here, but I spent a few hours researching him today. He also has his profile on many dating sites. I think one of the most telling things is his own response to the feedback on Amazon.

He brags:
... I've been hustling and scamming for over 10 years. I'm pretty good at it, even though I have been twice convicted in federal court doesn't mean I don't know what I'm doing, on the contrary my convictions demonstrate that I do know what I was doing because if I wasn't successful I wouldn't have been convicted...

Wow!! Since my post and Herstory's were totally separate, how did you put that together? To me the resemblance is so close, it is disturbing. (father/son? the ages are right) Be careful what you type...this is a dangerous area to get into, not just here on WS but in general.

On the other hand, would a relative of somebody in the Prison Witness Protection Program be so bold as to have such an internet presence?

ClaireNC you know me, breaking all the rules...sorry! lol

I assumed it was ok to post those since they were available to the general public without much searching involved..

I agree that this line of investigation could be shifty.. I would not really want to get tangled up in that mess..

The person guy in the mugshots above I think is related to a person of similar name(different middle name) that recently(2003) passed away in Galveston, tx.. when I did a search for his address and phone, relatives were listed...interesting.

I agree the two persons in the story and the pilot guy look VERY MUCH SO alike. You know...he does have hazel eyes.... ;)

did you guys read the BACKGROUND of the other guy mentioned (V**co) ? He was " alleged guilty of securities fraud. He immediately fled the ensuing U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission investigation " and he died in Cuba.... ring any bells??
of course, total coincidence, but wow.
