Ok ... this is strange. So apparently his family knew he was going to Mexico to visit family- he left Monday 4/26 from Tennessee. Then, some point between 4/26 and Wed 4/28 he was reported missing? But then, on 4/28 he was pulled over and taken off the missing person list ... and then the next day his car is found abandoned with his belongings and ID (only about 40min from where he was pulled over)? Lots of questions.

“... Martinez had previously been reported as missing, until a Lumberton police officer pulled him over on April 28th for a traffic violation. At that time ... Martinez was taken out of the missing person's database.

... 8 to 12 hours later, Martinez's car was found near Bridge City, at the end of Bailey's Road.

In social media posts, Martinez's family says he left his home in Memphis, Tennessee on Monday, April 26th, with plans to head to Michoacan, Mexico. Family members also say his car was found with the keys still inside and with an identification card.”

Search is underway in Orange County for missing man

ETA - the picture being circulated by LE seems very different than that on media sites and missing persons Facebook groups. I’m wondering if it’s a more recent picture...? It seems lower quality and even a bit eerie, but maybe that’s just me. Curious as to why it was chosen by the Sheriff’s office, but maybe it was all they had available.

Wonder why they don’t use his DL picture?

Wonder why they don’t use his DL picture?
Hopefully this is acceptable to share based on media posts, but I believe the picture shown by LE is from body cam footage the night he was pulled over (4/27) ... If that’s the case the type of picture and quality of it make a lot more sense.

Googlemaps didn't know Bailey's Road, but it has Bailey's Camp, with a road that ends in a grassy field beside a lake. When I take the little yellow person for a walk, the grass isn't as green, but the video is dated December, so probably it's just the seasonal difference.

It's about 45 miles from Lumberton, where the traffic stop happened.

One of the Scariest Bridges in Texas Has a Not-So-Scary Name

“The "Rainbow Bridge" probably doesn't sounds very scary but if you're afraid of heights... One look at this Southeast Texas bridge will make you want to ask a stranger to drive you across so you can close your eyes the whole time.

Texas News Blog provides historical background for the tallest bridge in Texas that stands 176 feet above the Neches River (230 feet high) and is 7,700 feet long. Nearby town Prairie View adopted the name "Bridge City" shortly after initial bridge construction was completed on September 8, 1938, according to bridgecitytexas.com.”

1813 NEWS EXCLUSIVE | MISSING MAN IDENTIFIED | BRIDGE CITY | EARLY REPORT: DROWNING |

Law Enforcement sources have confirmed the body of a man found in the Neches River near Bridge City - is that of 29-year-old Luis Martinez Gonzalez. Identification was confirmed by the family of Martinez based upon specific clothing and jewelry he was wearing. An autopsy has been completed but the official report is still pending. HOWEVER, in speaking with an official today, 1813 was told that no foul play is suspected in Martinez's death, and it appears that he may have drowned.

The TN man had been reported missing April 26, found again in Lumberton during a traffic stop on April 28, and released. The community of Bridge City and surrounding areas organized search efforts, in cooperation with his family, to find him. Martinez's vehicle and personal identification had been located just off Bailey's Camp Road in Bridge City on April 29th, and a body was found May 3rd under the Rainbow Bridge.

Mr. Martinez's body has been released to his loved ones.
