'MADISON COUNTY, Texas — A new image has been revealed of the victim in an unsolved case involving the remains of a young girl found in Madison County over eight years ago.
On Sept. 17, 2016, a black suitcase was found at the edge of a property off of I-45 near the city of Madisonville--about 38 miles northeast of Bryan, 95 miles north of Houston--and discovered the skeletal remains of an unidentified child wrapped in a white trash bag. '

I am glad to see the new image. I really hope Baby Madison gets her name back in the coming months! <3

Hopefully, they're closer to an ID knowing where her parents were from.

"It was originally believed “Baby Madison’s” lower jaw was smaller than normal ... It's now believed the child did not suffer from micrognathia."

Interesting. That has been such a defining characteristic from the beginning. The difference is in the bones, I wonder how it could have been misinterpreted for so long?

It reminds me of Susan Lund. For many years, her recons showed a very, very obvious asymmetry to her head and face. Later assessment by experts deemed that the asymmetry may have been pretty much unnoticeable.

(I know that the source isn't the greatest, but unidentified wiki has the greatest assortment of Susan's pictures and the various recons I could find.)

Lay Them To Rest is a great book that focuses on Susan's case heavily, if anyone is interested.

I really do think Madison's case is solvable. It really means a lot to me. Disabled victims often fall through the cracks in so many areas of life. They shouldn't fall through them in death, as well. This little girl needs her name back, and a proper grave with that name on it. No child should be a Doe forever.

MOO

I know sometimes forensic artists can exaggerate certain characteristics in hopes to jog people's memory (Jenny Gamez comes to mind). I'm not sure why they thought she had micrognathia, but it would have been a good explanation as to why she needed a feeding tube. If her jaw was normal, she needed it for some other reason.

It still seems like they think her skull was flattened on one side, though. It's more noticeable in this recon than in the old one.

Here is a link with conditions that would require a child to have a feeding tube.

  • Abnormalities of the mouth, esophagus, stomach or intestines.
  • Sucking and swallowing disorders often related to certain neuromuscular conditions, such as severe cerebral palsy; brain injury, being born prematurely or developmental delays.
  • Poor growth or failure to thrive even after dietary supplements.
  • Extreme difficulty taking medicines by mouth.
  • Significant time and effort involved with feedings.
  • Aspiration (when contents from the mouth or stomach go into the breathing tube or lungs during or following normal feedings).
I also saw on Google that cancer can also require a child to have a feeding tube along with respiratory, cardiovascular conditions, and sensory issues.

There are two main types of feeding tubes:
Manually placed: Oral gastric/Naso gastric.
Surgically placed: Gastric etc.

This child had a surgically placed tube. It implies a more permanent condition.

Many kids with cancer have NG tubes. As a matter of fact, many toddlers with physical conditions that last a year or so will have NG tubes. (Even kids with serious GI conditions) It's a miracle that they stay in, but they do.
Gastric tubes tend to be more common in kids with developmental delays etc.

Cancer would have likely shown up on an autopsy.

I'm leaning more towards her having a neuromuscular disorder of some sort.

Yeah, I think so.

Maybe the gastric tubes hindered development by forcing infants and toddlers into a laying down feeding position? Whereas NG tubes allow for an upright, more natural feeding position. I saw lots of NG tubes in the day, but surprisingly the gastric tubes were not that common, considering the severity of some of the kiddos.

The gastric tubes were easier for the nursing staff, but the NG tubes were what the physicians ordered.
