I love how the lawyer says the murderer didn't want to put her family through a trial to save them anguish...sure thing, that was his concern...not the possibility of parole in the future.

Awww...you’re welcome you guys!
She’s all of our little angel! This one affected me differently than many others. I had to take a break too. RIH Maleah...you have a multitude of literal strangers who will never forget you!

I just saw that Derion Vence plead guilty to injury to a child and tampering with a deceased corpse and was sentenced to 40 years for the first charge and an additional 20 years for the tampering charge. How did this come about? I came here looking for information but can't find anything other than that.

Did he accept a plea deal? I can't imagine him confessing without something in return. At least it's over now and her family does not have to endure a trial.

Finally, justice for Maleah!

So, he will be almost 70 when he gets out. I would really like to know what happened, I'm guessing he lost it and pushed her or something along those lines. That poor child had already been hurt pretty badly before.

I just can't fanthom how he/they could keep treating her so badly after all she went through. Poor baby. Rest in peace, Maleah.

I hate to be cruel, but I hope he's haunted for what he did to this poor child for the rest of his miserable life. He doesn't deserve inner peace or any peace at all.
I think he'll be almost ninety with the additional 20 years. He will likely die in prison.

Thanks, I read that but it really doesn't contain any more details. Last I heard he was supposed to go to trial in July. I was wondering why he suddenly decided to plead guilty. He went to so much effort to cover up his crimes and his family insisted he was innocent. Maybe his attorney convinced him to give up.

I was also wondering if the Discovery will be released and when.

DV's punishment will be served concurrently so 40 years.

Vence was sentenced to 40 years for intentional injury to a child and 20 years for tampering with a corpse. He will serve the sentences concurrently, the district attorney's office said.

Meanwhile, Bowens issued the following statement on Thursday.

"There will never be enough justice for Maleah. This has been a long two years. It has been very traumatic for me and the family. This could never be my true closure for me because we still dont know what really happened and I think thats something hell take with him to the grave. Its very upsetting and heartbreaking to know we may never know the truth. Charges of injury to a child and tampering with a corpse, do not feel like enough. My daughter was killed. Why?"

Man sentenced to 40 years in prison in death of Texas girl

A Texas man was sentenced Thursday to 40 years for charges related to the death of a 4-year-old girl who went missing for several weeks before her remains were found in Arkansas.

Maleah Davis was reported missing in May 2019. Derion Vence, the ex-boyfriend of Maleah’s mother, initially told police the Houston girl had been kidnapped by assailants who released him and his 2-year-old son.

During a court hearing Thursday, Vence, 28, pleaded guilty to tampering with a corpse and injury to a child. If convicted by a jury, Vence could have faced up to life in prison.

An autopsy concluded Maleah died from “homicidal violence.” According to court records, authorities alleged Vence restricted Maleah’s airway with an unknown object and also hit the girl with a blunt object. Prosecutors did not file a murder charge in the case. In his confession, Vence said Maleah’s death was an accident.

That makes me so angry, he might well be up for parole in 20 years or less or will he have to serve the full 40?
In Texas, Parole isn't automatic but since Vence was not charged with murder - he'll likely be required to serve 25% or 50% of his sentence. Parole is complex and no certainty but we should be able to see his counter once Vence is transferred to prison. Vinelink still shows DV housed in the Harris County Jail.

I'm glad this monster was put away but like many of you, I don't feel it's enough.
DV went to great lengths to cover what he did, making up that ridiculous story about being abducted by hispanic men.

They had the person who picked him up hitchhiking and dropped him off at the hospital. They had Maleah's blood in the apartment.

They had DV on video carrying the laundry basket with the black trash bag in it. They had the car with the laundry basket inside. He confessed to Quanell X and told him where to find Maleah's body. They had Maleah's remains and the black trash bag (what was left of it after being run over by a mower). :(

The ME ruled that her death was the result of homicidal violence. The autopsy revealed that Maleah's airway was restricted with an unknown object.

All of that is not enough to prove intent and support a murder charge? In TEXAS? MOO

@Niner I can’t thank you enough for posting this (and many many others) update. Little Maleah’s murder tore me up and I had to take a break. I know this can’t bring her back, but knowing this sick, disgusting piece of scum can’t hurt anyone ever again, gives some small semblance of justice. RIP Maleah<3

Her "mother" wasn't that great either. I have no doubt that Maleah was abused by DV and it was ignored by her "mother". Who, BTW, has a child with DV.

INMO, anyone who reports a fake crime, against a person of another race, should be charged with a hate crime. This should be recognized for the racism it obviously is trying to perpetuate.

I hope DV's new Hispanic friends in lockup, remember DV trying to pin this crime on Hispanics.

DV, killed a beautiful little girl. "Suffocated with an unknown object". Disgusting.

If you do not get death/LWOP for killing a little girl what would you get it for.
Children and the elderly are our most vulnerable in society. I think if one of them are killed by violence against them, it should be death/LWOP for them, NOTHING less.
It's an insult and gives the wrong impression to would be offenders.
