A Houston sculptor is creating a memorial for 4-year-old Maleah Davis who was missing for nearly a month before being found dead in late May.

The story gained national attention, but especially impacted Houston residents, including sculptor Shirley Scarpetta.

“It’s our duty as parents to help protect our children, and the way she died was just so horrific," Scarpetta told local ABC affiliate KTRK. "Somebody needed to stand up for her.”

[...]

“In order for her to never be forgotten, for her to be a memorial for others to remind them, let’s take care of our future, our babies,” Scarpetta said.

Sculptor memorializes Maleah Davis with a bronze statue, so no one forgets
[...]

“It’s just something that touched my soul,” she told CNN on Saturday. “…It was something I couldn’t get it out of my mind.”

[...]

Scarpetta told CNN that as a mother, the tragedy tugged at her heart and made her want to sculpt the little girl. She said she got the opportunity on Thursday when a private donor commissioned the piece. She said she went to work and completed the base of the sculpture in just one day.

Scarpetta said, for her, Maleah represented all of the children who have been taken from the world too soon. The sculpture, she said, is for them.

[...]

Although Scarpetta finished sculpting the statue, it still needs to be cast in bronze. Scarpetta said it will take about a month to complete. She said someone is building a granite base for it and hopes there will be a public place to display it in Houston.

I have never, ever dreamed about a web sleuth case. Until a couple of nights ago. I dreamed about this one. It shook me up. :( More charges and arrests cannot come soon enough.

Any thoughts on when a grand jury will see evidence for add'l charges?

Checking in, thinking of Maleah. Hoping we have some more news this week once things are reviewed. I don't know if that will happen and it is a holiday week...

DV's changing stories:

2 Hispanics in a blue truck, and when woke up it was then 3 Hispanics kidnapped us, then I awoke later again and myself and my son were there but Maleah was gone and so were the kidnappers, they called her a pretty little girl (paraphrasing);
She died in her sleep;
Flu (could go together with the above one);
Accident;
Threw her off my lap and she hit her head (this one gives me the most pause and food for thought but still is not the truth but probably inching closer but still far from the total truth).

Did these all come from him per what we know allegedly? Any others?
BBM: The bolded part above where he supposedly claimed to the other jailmate that she was sitting on his lap and he threw her off gives me the most heartburn. I hate to even say what I'm thinking on that one.

Unfortunately, I'm a Progressive Thinker and can't turn off my thoughts and go to sleep at night like normal people. I have medication for this so I can sleep but don't take it until I've gone at least two days without sleeping (this isn't unusual for me, I suffer from severe insomnia). I find that these cases do not leave my mind and when I do actually fall asleep, I dream about them often. I wish I could blank them out.

I would be lying if I did not say the same thing probably crossed my mind and just guessing, but probably the minds of a few others as well due to other things that have been said. I sure hope not but chances are we will never know. This entire case gives me heartburn and heartbreak, I so agree.

Jmo.

I'm so sorry. I know that can be so debilitating. And then to relive them in your dreams. I won't offer any quick cures because I'm sure you know them all. Sounds like you've got a handle on it. Just know you're not alone.

Fulton overpass could be renamed to honor Maleah Davis
5d1bd9406256a.image.jpg

An overpass in Southwest Arkansas could soon be named after Maleah Davis.

[...]

Officials in Hempstead County initially wanted to name a section of interstate in her honor, but transportation officials say its reserved for law enforcement.

They're now working to rename the Red Lake Road overpass after her.

Currently, there's a memorial sign in Fulton which reads "Rest in Peace Sweet Angel Always in Our Hearts".

[...]

If approved, a "Maleah Davis Memorial Bridge" sign will be placed on each end of the overpass.

The Hempstead County Quorum Court recently passed a resolution in favor of the new name.

Sheriff James Singleton says Maleah's biological father also approved the signs.

[...]

The county is still waiting on approval from the Arkansas State Highway Commission.

If approved, a community event will be held to dedicate the new signs.

Thank you for joining Websleuths verified professionals @mrsmmm.

Will you be able to provide legal insight to the criminal case against Maleah's alleged killer, DV?

Thanks!

“Before there was Maleah Davis, there was Emma Thompson.” Interviewing her family tonight on why law passed in her name is no longer working. Parole hearing set for her mom, Abigail Young, tomorrow. #HTownRush #KHOU11

Her bio dad approved the signs? I fail to even understand that remark, it sounds almost as though he granted rights and authority--it seems out of place and odd in the overall article; I must be missing something but jmo.

It is wonderful that they want to do this--Maleah hopefully will stand for something; it is too bad we cannot do that throughout the country for every child victim.

I was truly hoping we would hear more this week but it is looking unlikely and tomorrow is a holiday.

Still praying for justice for Maleah.

All jmo.

I don't think it's anything more than proper etiquette to consult the family of a deceased loved one if you are going to use their name, photo, etc. for a memorial of some kind.

I remember in another case where a fundraiser was started for a memorial bench in a park which the victim's family had no idea about and didn't approve. It was eventually taken down but not before it caused quite a bit of a stir. Most people considered the fact that the family wasn't consulted as completely uncalled for, especially during their time of grief. MOO
