GUILTY TX - Maliyah 'Tootie' Bass, 2, Houston, 22 Aug 2020 *arrests* #2

I'm unclear why she moved but her involvement with Octavious Bass, whose family live in Dallas, may be connected. She has family and friends in Michigan, but her mom now lives in Arkansas!
Anyone with more on her history correct me if I'm wrong.
How they support themselves is a very hazy subject isn't it?
I know a child in residence qualifies you for some assistance, no info whether Bass provided child support, and Thompson supposedly worked for a short time at an area business and lost his job.
There may be sources we can only speculate...

Thanks! I'm not good at finding those documents or looking up court records. As long as there are public records it should be ok to post.

It's an injustice that this guy had so many convictions, committed a violent crime while he was on parole, and there were no consequences for such an extreme violation.

It's an outrage that a repeated violent offender was allowed to go free, meet Ervin and participate in a brutal crime against an innocent child. They both need to spend the rest of their days behind bars.

Found this article where the mother of the boyfriend speaks out about the case I found it very sad and what's worse if the statement from the victim advocate from the sheriff department. He said that the mother was asking about victims compensation early on in August who does that? Why would you be trying to get money from your childs death and especially if you caused that death, just wow, leaves me shaking my head.

She has not shown any remorse throughout the whole thing. Her fake crying on the ground when the body was found was ridiculous. She just didn't want to face anybody after what she had done. She probably didn't appear in court because she is too sick from withdrawal. I bet she doesn't have that arrogant smile on her face now.

I hate these stories. If you don't want a child, leave them at a church, a police station, anywhere where someone will find them and care for them. Here's a link to Safe Haven Laws in the US.

The problem is there are too many restrictions, depending on jurisdiction.

There is still a societal stigma toward people who give up their children. The reason shouldn't matter: economic, health both physical and mental, selfishness, ignorance, etc. It's all about the child. Our desire to condemn people for child abandonment is one of the reason's why little humans like Maliyah end up in a storm drain.

Even married couples who give up children for whatever reason sometimes are judged by neighbours and society in general "Have they never heard of birth control?" . No wonder thousands of abortions happen every day.

Sahara did not appear because she was undergoing psychiatric evaluation. She did appear the next day.

That is upthread a few pages, as is this australian news video of Fox news Isiah Carey show. The victim advocate, Andy Kahan, says she called again the nest day to ask about money a second time.

After hearing some of the ridiculous lies Thompson has told I'm not sure anything he says can be believed. Hitting a child with a hairbrush may sound more acceptable to him than beating a child all over her body with an electric cord or a wire hanger.

I would think a hairbrush would leave distinctive bruising. From what the ME said it sounded like the marks were a more circular pattern without bruising in the middle. They were described as looped. Imo

As she was hit the cord would loop around her when struck or wrap.

The circular pattern could be the cord whipping around her in a circular motion when being beaten with it.

Thinking about a "natural" hold in order to use an electric or extension cord as a weapon it makes sense that one would hold two sections together and make a loop. IOW it would deliver maximum impact.

IF that's the case here then IMO Maliyah was no stranger to cord punishment. Who the heck uses household items to beat a child? And who even thinks about using a closet as a punishment chamber?

This case just screams ongoing abuse. I'm still trying to find exactly how long Maliyah had been living with Sahara and Travion. All MOO.

IMO there has to be a reason for him to lie about the hairbrush if he indeed saw what he saw. So if that's not true, it's probably because he wants to distance himself from the abuse (for example, the truth is that they both beat her with his cell phone charging cord or a dog leash that belonged to him, so when he confessed he substituted an object that he perceived only the mom would use like the hairbrush to put more of the blame on her).

Whatever happened to her that night and previously in their care, I guarantee you it is worse than what he confessed to.

The interesting thing is that Travion appears to have several files under a different name, Trevion Sanders. Note the "a" vs. "e" in his first name. Same DOB - 12/07/1998.

This is weird, I had it come up with new charges for Maliyah, then it went down.
