GUILTY TX - Maliyah 'Tootie' Bass, 2, Houston, 22 Aug 2020 *arrests* #2

Maliyah's maternal grandmother reacts to her daughter's arrest on Fox 26 news video. She is appalled at all the lies her daughter told her, how she kept changing the story, and the dramatic grief performances put on by her daughter and bf. She is feeling a lot of guilt..it appears that she regrets not being able to be there for Maliyah near the end (she told Sahara she needed a few months, whatever that means). She wants justice for Maliyah, even if that means her daughter being responsible.

Maliyah Bass' mother and her boyfriend charged in girl's death; grandmother speaks
As to the bolded, I had read that Sahara had just recently had her daughter back with her. So I wonder if the maternal grandmother may have had her most of the time, but maybe needed a break due to physical or financial concerns? She may have asked Sahara to take her for awhile, which is a normal thing to ask---but tragic in this particular case...:(

I think she was high. JMO.

This is extremely disturbing to me.
When she was standing by the bayou site, bawling and carrying on, going on about "they should have taken me", I think those were actually real tears, real grief, mixed with a super creepy performance to gain public sympathy and probably even get away with it (in her mind).

And then... this mug shot pic. I mean, I think you have to be a special kind of wicked to put on a show like this, when your child is dead, and discarded like trash. Gah.

I guess a paddle brush would leave loop shaped marks.

I can't bear to think of her alone, naked, dying in a broom cupboard overnight :(:(:(
I doubt she died the way they described it. She probably didn't die in the cupboard, alone and naked. They probably beat her to death, then removed her bloody clothes and stashed her remains in the closet, while they went and got another fix, so they could figure out what to do next. JMO

This is ridiculous and makes no sense. Why would this poor excuse of a mother stop allowing her child's father, who actually cared, to contact the child? Why? I don't see that dude wanting to be a daddy to someone else's child despite of the whole "I teached her the ABC's and the 1 2 3's" story. Did he tell her to stop talking to Maliyah's father and that's why she stopped letting him contact their daughter, or did she just really want her new boyfriend to be her dad?
And then, they don't even bother showing up to her funeral? I mean, not even the mother? She was scared to be pressed about what happened. These people are trash. I feel terrible for Maliyah's dad.
I think the only reason they couldn't allow the bio-dad to see his baby was because he would see the bruises and injuries. And once he began asking to see her, if they ignored him, he could call and request a wellness check---which would have gotten them both arrested.

So their brilliant idea was to finish the child off and dump her in a storm drain, and then act like they gave a *&^$#.

I believe there's always a bit of truth in every lie. Sahara likely did hit Maliyah with a hairbrush. maybe not that night and maybe not when she was murdered, but at some point she probably used a brush. my opinion is that a coroner/ME is smart enough to know the difference between a looped object and a hairbrush. or its possible there were various types of marks on Maliyahs body but the fatal injuries came from the looped object. Travion may think a hairbrush sounds less evil than perhaps an extension cord, but either way we have a murdered 2 year old and two adults who either participated in the murder or the disposal. I don't care if they beat her with a spaghetti noodle, she's dead and they killed her. moo

Yep, I said in another post that I actually believe this poor baby was probably already barely alive and the father asking to see her percipitated things, so they "finished" killing her. Poor baby.

Only moderately relevant, there's a comb called a 'Twist it Up' for use on African American hair, which is shaped like a 'looped object'.

For lack of a better description, it looks like a miniature tennis racket, with a mesh interior inset. If this item were to be used as a paddle, the center part of the brush would likely not have contact with the skin, leading to an injury from what appears to be a 'looped object'. MOO. Upsetting to think about at all.

Thinking about a "natural" hold in order to use an electric or extension cord as a weapon it makes sense that one would hold two sections together and make a loop. IOW it would deliver maximum impact.

IF that's the case here then IMO Maliyah was no stranger to cord punishment. Who the heck uses household items to beat a child? And who even thinks about using a closet as a punishment chamber?

This case just screams ongoing abuse. I'm still trying to find exactly how long Maliyah had been living with Sahara and Travion. All MOO.
Yes, from what we have learned so far, this doesn't sound like a single incident to me. The most common cause of death from child abuse is head trauma, but so far there is nothing that points to that. Another common cause is abdominal trauma. I would think Maliyah would have had other injuries besides the superficial wounds and a broken arm. Hopefully her body will tell the true story of what really happened to her. It's a good thing it was found so soon and Thompson was caught disposing of it on camera.

It's not clear how long Maliyah had been in her mother's care, but her mom said something about needing a little more time before she could go and get her. Maybe she had been caring for her for a period of time before that, and just needed a break before she took her back again. Apparently Maliyah's father contacted her about visiting with his daughter, as if he thought Maliyah was living with her. I wonder if Sahara was deliberately keeping his child from him.

I’m particularly interested in when this child was last seen by someone not in collusion with the alleged Perps. The time/date of death will be critical as well. God forbid the child lingered clinging to life in that closet for an extended time while the “adults” were in their drug haze.

Texas, fast track this one.

The last known sighting of her that was confirmable was on security video at 12:40 am on August 20th according to this article:

Maliyah's body was dumped in storm drain, mom's boyfriend told police

When was the BF seen with the garbage can? Apologies for asking stuff I should know.
I'm trying to figure out how long that baby was in the closet.

Although she was put in the broom closet on Aug. 21 (per the bf) no time was noted for when he was caught on video putting her in the storm drain on Aug. 22. Thank God for security videos!

The comment made by the b/f is bugging me - the one where he states that Maliyah was upset with him for breaking her toybox, so he gave her a pillowcase?

I keep thinking there is some element of truth to that - what toys were in it - any that could cause Maliyah's injuries?
How did it break/when did he break it? is that why Maliyah experienced such an ordeal that her little life was taken from her before it even had chance to begin - because she was upset that her toy box was broken?

better stop my fingers from tippy tapping these keys now, there is SO much I want to say about these two and just thinking about the pair of them is making me angry

It's hard to know if anything this guy has said is true. Maybe he invented the story because her pillowcase had blood or other evidence on it and they got rid of it. How does a toy box get broken to the point where it can't hold any toys? Was it smashed? Maybe it was just a plastic container. I do wonder if there were other incidents of domestic violence between the mom and the boyfriend in addition to child abuse and neglect.

Yeah, I think they either left her in the closet to keep her contained while they went out, or she was already dead and they hid her body there until they could get rid of it.

This is little Sherin Mathews take II.
I see no logical reason why the two "adults" shouldn't receive chain gang for life...or worse.
Show us how it's done Texas!

I want to know if Tootie was seen on videotape on the 20th, where? and why would it be at nearly 1 in the morning?
They had the ridiculous story about going to the convenience store Sat night late without Maliyah because they didn't want to wake her up. (As we know she was dead or close to it.)
But Friday night into that Saturday morning what was going on that the baby was seen and videotaped at 12:40 am?

Yes, Sherin Matthews and I'm also thinking of Harley Hiatt.
At some point society has to realize we have contraception available, even free for the indigent. There's legal abortion and putting up a baby for adoption. There are some places with safe haven laws.
But it doesn't seem to help. People keep creating, and keeping babies. Even when thry don't want to parent. Even when they've had others taken away.
I won't start a discussion here about solutions, not the place. But I do believe that should be mentioned in prosecution and sentencing. Not just the horrific experience of the child but that there was no excuse for even the child to be facing a possibility of any of this.
I like what Sheriff Judd of Polk County said.
To paraphrase and explain, he said all children are prisoners; not necessarily by the parents but by the fact they're unable to live independently...by dependence they have no choice of what they live in, what and when or if they get food or medical care. Everything, clean clothes, a bed, to be washed, kindness; it's up to adults. We have a moral obligation. If people use the child's lack of power to do these bad things, how should those adults be treated?

Imo, that would be more consistent with a cord or thin bendable hanger than a hairbrush.

As she was hit the cord would loop around her when struck or wrap.

The circular pattern could be the cord whipping around her in a circular motion when being beaten with it.

Jmhoo
Cell phone charging cord. Just another thought.
