According to the Brewster County Sheriff's Office, Margaret Aislinn Channon was last seen at Big Bend National Park after arriving on February 11.

Friends say that Channon was supposed to visit SXSW in Austin, Texas and Mardi Gras in New Orleans, Louisiana.

She is described as 5'5'' and 135 lb with blue eyes and dark hair. She has tattoos on her leg, shoulder and left wrist.

Anyone with information on her whereabouts is asked to call her mother, Liz MacGahan, at (206) 422-9560, or the Montgomery County Police referencing case #190011464 at (240) 773-6700.“ (BBM)

I wonder at what point MAC will be added to an official Missing Person website, if she hasn't already. And, perhaps it's just me, but I would like to know how old she is. And I wonder if the Missing Person flyer should be published showing her mother's name and Tel.#. Actually, I have a whole lot of questions...

Here's another link dated today, March 14, 2019.

Brewster County searching for missing woman

BREWSTER COUNTY, Texas (Big 2/Fox 24) - The Brewster County Sheriff’s Office is asking for help in location a girl who was on her way to SXSW in Austin.

According to officials with the BCSO, Margaret Aislinn Channon was on her way to SXSW in Austin and stopped at Big Bend National Park with friends.

She has now been reported missing. <snip>

I would like to know her age, too. I always think of that religious cult in that area when I read about these younger people going missing there on a trip.

Thank you, Quill, the religious cult would definitely be an avenue worth checking out.

I'm wondering if the young women who fall into the hands of these cults, contact home to let family know they're safe?

Cult? In Texas near BBNP?
I'm still lost on all the acronyms: SXSW, MAC, BCSO. Should I google. TIA

And she's been missing since Feb 11? A month? Has this just been reported?

I don’t see a description of her vehicle?

Big Bend is an odd choice and safety is a concern for several reasons.

Where was she traveling from?

SXSW ends March 17th.

South by Southwest (abbreviated as SXSW and colloquially referred to as South By) is an annual conglomerate of film, interactive media, and music festivals and conferences that take place in mid-March in Austin, Texas, United States. It began in 1987, and has continued to grow in both scope and size every year.

A border town. I’m thinking to cross over would be the only reason to be there unless you live in Presidio.

Good morning,
May I ask if you could elaborate on the safety concerns you mentioned? Thanks!

and yes, it would be nice to have a better idea of her "travel" plans between Austin, Big Bend, and home...but you never know what LE is going to keep to themselves to protect an investigation

A BBC article from July 2016:

“[SBM]

Tracking people and conducting lay-in operations – which require officers to hide in the desert brush and wait for drug smugglers or groups of illegal immigrants to appear – isn’t an easy gig. But [Ryan] Hajek, an agent with the United States Customs and Border Protection Agency who patrols the United States’ border with Mexico, gets to work in what’s arguably one of the most beautiful national parks in the world, Big Bend National Park.

[SBM]

Last October, when driving through the park headquarters, he spotted two men in the park’s convenience store meant for tourists. ‘I had a hunch that they were up to something,’ Hajek said. ‘I decided to watch and see.’ The men purchased 12 Gatorade drinks, 12 cans of beans and a stack of tortillas. After they paid for their goods, they walked into the brush and disappeared into an area that lacked hiking trails. ‘I got my uniform on and followed their tracks, and followed them for about one-and-a-half miles,‘ he said. The trek paid off. Hajek discovered 271 pounds of marijuana, two loaded handguns and five men who crossed the US-Mexico border illegally.

[SBM]

Like Mexico and the US, Hajek’s duties go beyond boundaries, and working in Big Bend means taking on responsibilities that are not asked of other border patrol agents. Not too long ago, the park service received a call from a lost hiker whose phone only had enough battery to allow him to call for help. For 12 hours, the hiker sat alone, lost in the middle of the Texas desert. Hajek used his tracking skills to locate him. ‘It was a search and rescue mission,’ he explained.

[SBM]” (BBM)
A desert of smugglers and skeletons

What stood out to me the most in the article above is that Agent Hajek found the men, along with 271 lb. of marijuana and two loaded handguns only a mile and a half from the convenience store. It’s as though they weren’t even trying to hide (not very hard anyway, IMO).

That is a real safety concern, IMO.

The ones that I have read about are not allowed contact. It is a nightmare for the families involved.
