So senseless. Her poor parents. I hate that on top of the horrific way that her father had to find his daughter he also had to deal with people pointing the finger at him, even after he was completely cleared by the authorities.

I hope they catch this evil monster soon and that he hasn’t fled the country yet.

LIVE Presser:

No maintenance workers involved; have been cooperative

Key found in apt did not go to victim's apt

Found out that it opened the door to another apt in the complex

Recent photo of POI is when LE contacted him (photo of POI sitting on bed)

Have DNA from POI when contacted him on Sat

Was last seen at complex 4 PM on Monday

No info that he fled to Mexico; He is Guatemalan

He wasn't exactly pointed at... mostly just questioning timeline.

and LE did state 'at this point' he was cleared

That left some wiggle room.

when asked if he told LE that he knew the victim, spokesperson said that he didn't want to talk about that right now
spokesperson said that their apts were very close to ea other

key is key evidence plus witness statements

his roommates tried to get his key back from him when he left but he said, No I'm going to hang on to it.

he told them he was leaving for different work, another job

He was in Pasadena for 3 - 4 wks; released to sponsors in LA, then came to complex

I’m hoping this is the right person, and didn’t really just leave for valid work-related reasons. I hope they have more on him, or will have more evidence, than just his leaving.

If they didn't know each other, why would his key be found in victim's apartment?

He didn't return his copy of the apt key to the roommates bc

he no longer had it. He lost it, dropped it, in the victim's apartment.

I wish it mandatory that all apt complexes had working security cameras. It would make solving crimes much easier like in the UK where there are security cameras everywhere.
You would think most would. Would it not help in Insurance purposes?

SBMFF. It makes me question whether or not the murderer knew that the surveillance cameras were not working at the time, or simply didn't think about them at all and risked being seen. Per the link in your article (also below):

"Surveillance cameras outside the apartments were not working at the time of the murder. "

Was his DNA at the scene?

I'm pretty sure that DHS collects DNA of asylum seekers and that is why they have his DNA.

Immigrants from Guatemala are eligible for asylum.

I believe it is still easy to enter Mexico without a passport. Mexico participates with our BOLO, but if he already crossed, it will be difficult to locate him.

the article mentioned he did give a dna sample so that is a good sign they have evidence.

But did they find his DNA at the crime scene?

His DNA was likely obtained by DHS when he entered the country. That is why they have it.

NO word on that yet, but they seem pretty confident and I feel he was not stealthy since he left his key

They said they can't arrest him...:(

Oops, missed that. Thanks, that’s very hopeful, then.

do they.....do that? Never heard of people giving DNA upon entering country unless already going to be in custody

I wonder if the building had a handyman or someone similar who could've claimed there was leak or something and gained access that way (either by Maria opening the door or using a master key)?
My thought exactly. Someone with a key.
