Mark was mentally ill, schizophrenic.

He was released from prison (Ramsey I) in Huntsville, Texas on 03-31-1981 after serving approximately 2 years for burglary. On the day of his release, Mark was released 2 hours early and he immediately walked to the bus station where he purchased a bus ticket to the Mexican border.

Mark believed he could find peace and happiness in Guatemala or Costa Rica.

When we found Mark walking around Huntsville with his bus ticket, he refused to get in the car with me and my dad and come home to Houston. That is the last time we saw Mark.

Mark was a letter writer and the letters home stopped coming after that time. My mom continued to live at the same address until 1997.

Mark had wandered off and left for months at a time before. He was in a Mexican jail a year or two before while exploring Mexico. A woman at the jail tracked down my mom and mailed her Mark's high school graduation ring.

He also had travelled to Guatemala where the US embassy sent him home because he had no money or shoes and he was sick. I believe that sent him directly to jail in Texas when he got off the plane because he had violated probation.

Mark had also traveled to El Salvadore once or twice before.

Early on, Mark may have carried some id on his person, but the sicker he became, Mark did not carry identification, money or a passport.

He lived off the land, climbing trees for fruit and fishing for dinner."

I am unsure about this one. Three MPs from Texas removed but only 2 Resolved cases. Hopefully Mark's case is among those resolved.

Were any UID cases removed from NamUs? I wonder if Mark was a John Doe

There were 2 UIDs removed today, both from Chicago. One of them is unclaimed now and the other is UP14297 who looks like he was identified as Mohan Vellanki.
