I really don't want to start an argument on this issue, but you've given your point of view on bringing the troops home, and I'd like to give mine. Keep in mind, as I said, my brother is at Ft Hood, and will deploying soon. My son is a Marine, and is on his way home from the Middle East within weeks.

My view on bringing them home is this: The terrorists attacked us on our own soil on 9/11. They continue to grow, and infiltrate our country. Without all the facts, we don't know if that's what happened today, but it is very well a good possibility. Islaamic radicals hate the west, they hate America, and all it stands for. We need to be in Afghanistan, we need to fight for our safety. They are never going to stop, so we need to stop them. And at the risk of making some people angry, our commander in chief needs to send the extra troops that have been asked for, by the person he put in command.

I'm sorry, this is not meant to offend anyone.

I'm not here to argue...I agree with most of what you say. as for the extra troops being sent, they should have been sent years ago.

I would like to know what the rules of engagement are on bases here in the US.
My nephew while in Iraq was required to go through the chain of command before firing back..
I can't help but wonder how many lives today could have been saved if in fact a chain of command was followed before firing at the shooter..

I don't know the answer to this. I will be talking to my brother later and ask him. I have been on Ft Hood, and I don't even remember seeing many soldiers that were armed. I suppose it would depend on where you are at.

They pointed out on the news that the Virginia Tech gun man used 2 hand guns also.

A defense official, also speaking on condition of anonymity, said Hasan was a mental health professional - an Army psychologist or psychiatrist. Officials say it was not clear what Hasan's religion was, but investigators are trying to determine if Hasan was his birth name or if he may have changed his name and converted to Islam at some point.

Wouldn't it be normal for MP's to carry weapons on a base?

Now who really believes he did this ALL by HIMSELF?

soldiers do not have their weapons on post unless they are at the range.... or they are MPs on duty.

only mps were armed. a security expert on foxnews was just stating that the shooter must have reloaded multiple times to kill 12 people and injure 30 more! many victims have/had multiple gunshot wounds

I don't, and what is really scaring the crap out of me right now is waiting for the second base to be attacked, just like the second plane that went through the twin towers.. Lord I pray I am wrong..

Yes MP's do carry weapons on post...other soldiers don't usually carry them unless they are going to the firing range with their company and they have to be signed in and out with the arms room.

Military police follow the same Use of Force guidelines as civilian police. Shooting is authorized to stop the commission of a felony or to protect lives.

Terrorism in this case is possible, but I'm thinking not (regardless of the shooter's name). Its hard to understand what happens to a person during a deployment to a combat area. As I'm understanding it, the major had been deployed previously and was slated to deploy once again. Not only did he carry the burden of his emotional baggage, but being in the mental health field he may very well have carried the burdens of several other military members.
Its been almost 20 years since Desert Storm, and I still wake up some nights in a cold sweat at the slightest sound in the house. I sleep with the TV on a lot.

I was stationed at Ft Hood as an MP for six years in the early '90s, and was a member of the SRT (Special Reaction) Team. The SRT train for the shooter/sniper scenario, so it wasn't as though there wasn't anyone on the post prepared for this eventuality (speaking to an earlier post about there being no SOP [Standard Operating Procedure] for this occurence.

The processing center is a scene of controlled chaos, and was most likely packed at the time. Officers, regardless of their military speciality, will generally carry a sidearm (pistol) when in the final stages of deployment preparedness.

Ok....after reading the time line above I have a new theory......

shooter is pyschiatrist which would make him a deep thinker......he has recently embraced Islam.....

being on an american military base where lets face it muslims would be looked at with suspicion he certainly would have all of a sudden stood out......

someone keys Allah into his car.......these guys are being sent to/ or have just been to Iraq...Islamic country.......he starts to see them as the enemy....

is about to be deployed to Iraq with now what he perceives to be the enemy.....must have been mental torture.....

I think the keying of the word allah into his car set him off and I think he has told 2 other Islamics from his mosque and set them off too.......

so in fact it was some form of a hate/terrorist crime but probably not planned by a group...

anyhow once they tell us about the other 2 we shall know....

I think the answer is going to have to be to split the world in two and let each side live in peace without trying to combine the two because lets face it ......it just aint working.......there is trouble ALL OVER THE WORLD because of these religious and cultural differences....

I would think so, and I'm trying hard to remember, but the only ones I
think I remember seeing, were at the gates.

Bless you solider...with all my heart and soul I thank you for your service!
I hope you are right, although the thought of someone having so many problems mentally due to deployment is so heart wrenching in itself, I'd rather know that is the reason, than it being terrorists at work.
