meow333 -

i guess saying that he was a homosexual was not an option for him since his whole family is muslim. remember the head honcho of iran answered a reporter's question about his view of homosexuals in iran with "who told you there are homosexuals in iran?" "we don't have homosexuals in iran".....

and it is irony of ironies to try to convince the higher ups that one has severe mental problems as a currently employed psychiatrist treating mental issues in a military hospital. he would also have wanted to continue his work as a psychiatrist in the civilian world so that would also have been a problem

If he really wanted to get out he could have done either of what i said, period. His family should be more openminded towards homosexuals then. He could have claimed gay and hit on a superior.
As for him being a psychiatrist, mental illness can affect anyone! He wouldn't even have to fake it, obviously he had some severe mental problems to go kill 12 people and injure 31 others, you think?
There are ways out if you want out of the military, there is no excuse!

Not that what he did was right but I would suggest this fellow took a lot of abuse from some in the military who may not have friendly views of Muslims.

Its all very tragic.

It goes both ways. Also sounded to me like some of his radical views weren't very well received by some of his brothers-in-arms.

I have no problem with any religion, I do have a problem with any FOOL who steps into a military base and kills innocent soldiers! I have a problem with it no matter if they were catholic, Islamic, Christians, or Muslim! It makes no difference! Most soldiers who committ these horrible acts because of a mental problem go after their families, themselves..not their fellow soilders..
This was a pure hate crime.:furious:
A retired soldier was just on Fox news talking about his radical beliefs..
I am sorry you are offended, but this has nothing to do with religion, this is pure terror!

Ditto that!

Colonel Terry Lee (Ret) was the person on FNC, who said aplenty about Hasan's radical views! And that was first hand information he provided.
Sounds like Hasan had a habit of sort of cheering for our so-called enemies.

Also it's rumored that Hasan was 'targeting' the people he was shooting.

Folks he didn't do all this alone....

If he was giving away copies of the Qu-ran then he was defintely Muslim. Maybe he just told one of his patients he was a Christian. Probably he didn't want to raise any eyebrows.

Good Lord, he was cheering for the enemies!! He had this planned out, IMO.

If "certain individuals' were targeted, and the hospital was closed to routine visitors.........that kinda makes it sound like another gunman. I think.....

Has anyone, anywhere, mentioned that it happens to be Guy Fawkes day?

my thoughts:

this guy wanted out of the military. They paid for his college and med school and now he wanted out. He was scared of deploying and was due to deploy very shortly. He lost it. His beliefs/delusions were so real that he acted on them.

I would not be surprised if it were HIS unit at the PDP today and that he DID target certain people... esp those UP his chain of command that would not let him put his paperwork thru to get out.

Add 'one sick puppy' to all of that as well.

Found this patient review of Hasan:

"Although he was hard to understand (strong accent) this doctor helped me come to terms with my conscientious objector status. While I am still not thrilled about being deployed to Iraq, I at least understand how doing so to protect my fellow soldiers is a good thing."

Thats very strange

Update 6:46 From Killeen ISD "Killeen ISD has received word from Fort Hood that the lock down has been lifted. Students will be dismissed to parents. All parents must go to the campus and pick up their student. Students will only be dismissed to parents/guardians who sign them out. No student will walk home or ride a bus. Again, Killeen ISD has received word that the lock down has been lifted. All students will be dismissed from their campus to a parent."

So they lifted the lockdown after this 3rd guy was arrested?

  • #496
yes yes psychiatrists certainly can have mental issues!!! like i earlier stated, psychiatrists and anesthesiologists have the highest rate of suicide of all physicians.

because he apparently got a poor performance review at walter reed before his transfer to ft hood, it may even have been known that he did have mental issues. that, coupled with his public anti-american statements and begging to be released from service was not enough to get himself out.

that should be more than enough to get someone booted from a military position, but...sigh....that's not what happened. i am sure we will learn more and more

And I respectfully AGREE! I totally agree with you....

I really don't know. I heard a senator say they arrested 2 then let them go and then arrested a third. I wish the briefing would start to clear some of this up.

Update 6:52 Fort Hood is no longer on lockdown.
