Matthew told his mother he had to go to work on Sunday March 5, 2023 around 10:30 AM, she dropped him off at the end of his Private Road so his friend could pick him up. He never made it to work. His friends stated they did not have to work on Sunday 5th so he wouldn't have picked him up. Matthew only had his phone with him at the time he left. The last ping was several miles from his home around the Aurora/Boyd area. The phone was shut off at approximately 3:05 PM Sunday afternoon around 5 hours after he left his residence.

The area Matthew was last seen at is more remote, with lots of acreage and farm land. This would be the normal driving route from there to his place of employment, Walmart:

IMHO Sounds like he may have had other plans rather than work. If he mislead where he was going to be, it might have been something he knew his Mom/parents may not approve of. SM will (hopefully) give LE an idea of what he had going on. I hate it when anyone goes missing. I hope is Matthew is well.

Austin James Acree, 17, of Decatur was arrested on a first degree felony charge of murder Tuesday morning and has bond set at $100,000, according to Wise County Jail records. Akin said the juvenile, whose name and age were not released, has also been charged with murder in the case.

IMHO This is definitely not the outcome I was hoping for! I figured if something happened to Matthew, it would be someone he knew and maybe trusted. I can't imagine what this "motive" will be that (in their minds) justifies the taking of Matthew's life. RIP Matthew and hugs to his family. Head shaking....

“(Redacted) stated he was bent down with Matthew trying to start the fire and he heard a gunshot and Matthew looked at (redacted),” the affidavit states. “… Matthew then fell to the ground and (Acree) fired another shot into his temple.”

“(Carl) advised he made plans with Austin and (redacted) to commit the act of murder against Matthew, by giving the ‘green light,’” the affidavit states. “(Carl) stated he was on the phone with Austin and (redacted) via speakerphone when they shot Matthew, and Austin brought him the murder weapon…and the phone so he could get rid of them. (Carl) stated that they had been talking about killing Matthew for approximately a month.”
