I value everyone's take on cases. I have read the bio dads FB and imoo, he seems to be gang affiliated also. I meant no disrespect to anyone that has to live in hard areas, I was just pointing out that prior to this tragedy, she was mostly left to her own devices. We had a family tragedy, I am related to a convicted felon who killed his young gf. Her family threw her out at 15. She supported herself by dancing!! She was very sweet, and well loved by us all, but she lived a hard life. Then my 🤬🤬🤬 BIL killed her. After the crime, her family came out of the woodwork proclaiming their love etc, which was so unbelievable to me. So maybe I was projecting a little as Natalie reminds me very much of our sweet Nichole. So I am sorry if I have offended, or come off as family blaming. I am just sad that so many young ones slip through cracks...

Ninj-a very gracious post and please know I wasn't singling anyone out. Before I experienced what our family has been through I would totally have blamed the family.

It was a heart-breaking discovery. Dozens of candles were broken and 15-year-old Natalie Chavez's memorial was destroyed. "When I got down here, the wreath was just torn apart, just thrown. Candles everywhere, glass all (over), the glass is still on the floor," said Natalie's father... "There's a little boy that lives right here... He runs to my house and tells me this guy (was) down here breaking everything..." said Chavez.

Chavez's brother, Juan Antonio Chavez, caught up with the man. That's when a police report says a fight broke out. Two bystanders tried to step in and break it up, but one of them had a knife and cut Antonio. Police say Juan Antonio Chavez then took the knife away and stabbed the man who’d stabbed him...

Juan Antonio Chavez is out of the hospital and, according to the police report, not a suspect but a victim.

Avalos a person of interest in two other cases

On April 15, Celia Lopez, 29, was found dead on the 4400 block of South Presa. Lopez had suffered trauma to her head and face.

On April 4, a woman was found unconscious in a grassy alleyway in the same area on the 100 block of Avondale Avenue. According to SAPD, the woman was nude from the waist down and had bruising but no obvious signs of trauma. Police have not confirmed whether she was sexually assaulted. She remains hospitalized.

Man already charged in teen’s death accused of killing second woman

SAN ANTONIO -- A man already accused of sexually assaulting and killing a 15-year-old girl is now accused of killing a 29-year-old woman.

John Avalos is now facing a second murder charge in the death of Celia Lopez. Lopez’s body was found in a vacant lot off of South Presa near Fair Avenue back in April. Her family had reported her missing several days before her body was found.

From September:

A San Antonio man is now considered a "person of interest" in a fourth case where a female was found dead, according to police.

Johnny Avalos, 28, has been named by SAPD as a "person of interest" in the death of Rosemary Perez. Perez' body was found on the side of the road in the 2100 block of San Fernando Street in January...

The third charge is in the death of Genevieve Ramirez. The 46-year-old woman was found unconscious in an alley in the 100 block of Avondale Avenue in April without any clothes below the waist, brutally beaten. The medical examiner confirmed she died on June 18.

During an exclusive interview with KENS 5, Johnny Joe Avalos said he's been keeping a secret: more murder victims...

The 28-year-old does not deny he has killed three women and a teenage girl. As a matter of fact, when given the names of the victims, he seemed unbothered by the topic...

The trial against a San Antonio man accused of killing multiple women last year will move forward as a death penalty case, for now. That decision is a story we broke last week.

"It's a matter of justice,” Bexar County District Attorney Nico LaHood says.

By the time 29-year-old Celia Lopez's body was found in a field, her accused killer was already sitting in the Bexar County Jail. Johnny Avalos was there because police say he sexually assaulted and strangled 15-year-old Natalie Chavez. San Antonio police say he also killed 45-year-old Genevieve Ramirez, and is considered a person of interest in the murder of 27-year-old Rosemary Perez.

On just the Natalie Chavez charges alone, LaHood says his office will seek the death penalty, "At this point we're moving forward with death."

In December, the trial will be scheduled.

Indictments released Tuesday allege a San Antonio man killed four women in the span of five months.

Bexar County District Attorney Nico LaHood said the new indictments take into account that accused killer Johnny Joe Avalos, 29, is charged with capital murder in a series of four separate murders from Dec. 2014 to April 2015.

Avalos is charged in the deaths of Natalie Chavez, 15; Rosemary Perez, 28; Celia Ann Lopez, 29; and Genevieve Ramirez, 46.

“That’s what we call serial murder enhancement. The statute allows for that,” LaHood said. He said if they had occurred all at one time, it would be mass murder, but the district attorney said that doesn’t change the fact his office will seek the death penalty.

*snip*

Two indictments detail the four murders, alleging that Avalos asphyxiated each victim with his hand and arm, also using plastic bags on three of them.

LaHood said some, but not all of the women, are alleged to have been involved in prostitution.

“But that’s irrelevant,” LaHood said. “Every life matters in this office and there’s value to that.”

This is too weird, in terms of fours and sex workers...
