TX - Nichol Olsen, 37, & 2 daughters, found shot dead inside mansion, Bexar County, 10 Jan 2019 #3

Correct me if I'm wrong, but at the time of the deaths, she was the one with the criminal record and convictions no?

His impaireds came after the fact as far as I know.
I believe his DUI's were before. Let me check.

Okay, I am not seeing anything on him. Can someone help with this please?! My mind is absent today.....

IIRC, at the beginning of this saga because I pointed out that only she had the criminal record, but the automatic assumption was that she would never get violent let alone hurt her kids.

I thought it was rather ironic given her Domestic Violence record and nothing on him that a lot of people were giving her the benefit of the doubt and had not an iota of doubt that he must have done this. Especially her friends. and bowed out of this thread because of it.

Just throwing this out there ... a thought. If someone is used to drama and/or violence, IMO they have an innate ability to bring out the worst in others. It's like that person knows how to 'push buttons.' And now on that note, I am really perplexed.

SBM - Here’s the article that shows his prior arrests. Thanks MimosaMornings.
Paywall, but I do see that's after this incident (which is probably exactly what drove him to drink!), but no excuses for drunk driving.
After reading the article above, it appears he had arrests before this incident. I get the paywall as well. I kept clicking the back arrow and was able to finally read it. I took some screenshots. Now I can’t get back into it.
2008 - arrest public intoxication
2009 - arrest DWI
2013 - arrest and taken to detox facility. No charges filed.
2015-2016 - cited for speeding 4 times.
@BaffleMe - the above article shows his arrest history.

“Many people think the following situations constitute or raise a question about a couple’s marital status under common law:

Myth 1: If we live together for 6 months or more, we are common law married.

Myth 2: If we move in together at all, we are common law married.

Myth 3: If we get engaged, we are agreeing to be common law married.

Myth 4: If my girlfriend tells someone that we are married but I don’t agree, then we might be common law married.

Myth 5: If my girlfriend uses my last name without my permission, then we might be common law married.

Myth 6: If we agree to get married in the future, we are common law married now.

Myth 7: If we agree to be married but never move in together, we still might be common law married.

Myth 8: If we talked about being married but never told anyone, we might be common law married.

Myth 9: If we have kids together and they have the father’s last name, we are common law married.

Myth 10: If we agree to be common law married, then we can agree to be divorced the same way.

As you will see, each of these situations is merely folklore and these are not examples of a common law marriage.”

“WHAT ARE THE RULES FOR COMMON LAW MARRIAGE IN TEXAS?

In order to meet the requirements of an informal/common-law marriage in Texas the man and woman must:

1. Agree to be married;

2. Live together as husband and wife, and

3. Represent to others in Texas that they are husband and wife,
which is often referred to as “holding out” to others that you are husband and wife.

All three elements must exist at the same moment in time to establish a common-law marriage.

In addition to meeting the above requirements, you must also prove that both husband and wife have the capacity to enter into the marriage. In the state of Texas, to have the capacity to enter into a common-law marriage, you must be members of the opposite sex, you must both be at least 18 years of age or older, you cannot be related, and you must not be currently married to someone else. If you can fulfill these requirement.”

Thank you!

So, where my brain must have been back then was that she had the sole conviction for direct violence against another.

Dude does need to check into a re-hab for a very, very long time.

Thank you so much. I knew I saw it somewhere. So, on that note of both having incidents in their past, hmmm. Honestly, I wonder, WHO took the gun out of the drawer? Two adults, two kids ..... It may sound crazy, but the shooter may not have been the one who got the gun out, to begin with. Thoughts?

BBM Yes he sure does.
I don't know why, but that made me laugh. And, what about him speeding? I could be mistaken, but it seems like that was an issue. Both of them exhibited wreckless behavior, IMOO.

However, for some reason, the two of them together was basically a match made in hell.
All MOO.
Great post, respectfully snipped for focus.

The discussion on relationship dynamics is reminiscent of Chad & Lori Daybell in some ways. Lori had a history of failed relationships with men, but Chad seemingly had a intact marriage until he met Lori. The dynamic when the two of them came together is obviously like you stated - a match made in hell. I wish we knew more about NO's childhood years. To understand the present, you sometimes need to know the past.

I look forward to learning more about what the investigation will reveal, hopefully something will be made public after it is concluded. I think the tox results will be key in learning more about her state of mind at the time, JMO.

Yet no history of assaults, threatening behavior, or verbal abuse toward partners...
I agree the others are crimes, yet a totally different type of activity...
He does not appear to have a history PT their relationship, in initiating violence; perhaps she was egging him on, and trying to get him angry and upset:
I believe that is why he left the house that evening; feeling he could defuse her “firecracker” personality... MOO

Trying to catch up on this case. This one piece from a recent article is stuck in my craw:

The last call before calling 911 was to CW’s mother, but the sheriff and CW don’t know whether they spoke or not??
Two years after the murders???

I don’t get it. Is Cindy Wheeler dead or something?

am I missing something? TIA

Someone using Nichol Olsen's cell phone called 911 four times the night before she and her two daughters were found shot to death at her boyfriend's Anaqua Springs Ranch home.

BBM I wonder that too. I don’t think we will ever know. I can’t imagine either girl grabbing the gun, unless they were trying to protect themselves from NO. I think NO grabbed the gun. What bothers me so much is why. Did she get the gun with the intention to only kill herself? If so, when and why did she decide to kill her daughters first? I don’t think we will ever get these answers. MOO

Thanks Knox and you’re right about Chad & Lori Daybell. What sick and twisted people they are. They are the epitome of a match made in hell. I would throw in Paul Bernardo and Karla Homolka as well.

IIRC NO was very close to her dad and he died when she was 7. I think her mom was pretty much an alcoholic and they weren’t very close. I just read that NO had two divorces and went through three custody battles.

BBM I agree. The one thing I’ve always remembered from a college Psychology class was, “the best predictor of future behavior is past behavior”.

I’m also very curious about what the tox results.
MOO

Yes, someone several pages back, posted about this research, and reported on GPR
is not always present on hand at suicide...
Can look back, or do research...

@Gunslinging Granny
I found the articles below and posted them a few pages back. It was interesting.
I don’t think LE has said anything publicly about NO and GSR.
ETA Sorry, I didn’t know how to copy and paste just the articles from my other post.

I’ve been reading some interesting articles about the reliability of GSR testing on undisputed suicides by gunshot. It doesn’t appear to be as reliable as I had thought. From one of the articles;

“Since only 50% of cases where the person is known to have fired a weapon were positive for GSR by either method, this test should not be relied upon to determine whether someone has discharged a firearm and is not useful as a determining factor of whether or not a wound is self-inflicted or non-self-inflicted”
https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/17721164/.

Another article about GSR reliability.

“As you can see, the weight attached to evidence from gunshot residue hinges on too many factors, which is one of the reasons why the FBI closed its GSR testing laboratory way back in 2006.”
