because it doesn't fit their current narrative?
I don’t think they have a narrative though? They have a case with some discrepancies, it seems.

What if another person, not Nichol, dragged the one daughter out of the bathroom. Who was in the house? We don't know. That would stage (maybe) a murder/suicide. MHOO

I wonder what became of the case review?

Yeah there’s no way paternity was called into question on a “normal”, “nothing to see here” type of night imo. Even if the mysterious paternity issue isn’t what sparked the fight and/or murders, that’s a pretty big issue.
I don't know if this was brought up yet, only got this far. Why did NO cancel audition? And didn't tell anyone before the call to London's dad. So everything sounded fine during that phone call. Then London finds out they are not going, either from the friend or NO, and London says something like "Dad wants me to go" and NO says "He's not your Dad!" and it goes from there.
Also I am not surprised they were in the upstairs hallway it was after 11PM, most 10 year olds would be in bed...

Well, if we are to speculate freely, perhaps the reason why the sheriff don't want to put the blame on the girls' deaths on NO is that he has a personal bias on what makes a mother, and that bias makes it impossible for him to accept that a mother have killed her own children. If I have understood it correctly the girls fathers have accepted that NO as the person who killed the girls.
I don't know about that... In his career I'm sure he's seen plenty of mothers do horrible things to their children.
There's another reason...

RBBM, IMO (still) it's because the stir caused by her friends had his ratings sky-rocketing and he doesn't seem the type to want to have to eat any humble pie.

I think this is a case of murder suicide and the mother was the killer. For whatever reason she snapped and decided to take her kids with her.
I just don’t see it happening any other way. If there were evidence of any other scenario it would’ve been immediately investigated. The sheriff clearly was hoping to be able to find any other possibility than she killed her kids and herself. But he couldn’t. I think that speaks volumes. MOO!

It'll be three years next month. Hard to believe this case hasn't been resolved yet!
LE should know who had the gunshot residue on their hands. Could it be that it was on more than one person? Did we figure out how the gun even came to be in the picture? Was the gun kept in NO's bedroom? Were all the bedrooms upstairs or was NO's on another floor?

Was the case close or not yet?

Agreed.
And Nichol's prints had to be on the gun unless she was wearing gloves, which hasn't been mentioned.

I just discovered a longer interview with Tuleta Copeland of Project Absentis from back in May about her thoughts on why Nichol did not kill herself and what is typical for women based on her experience.

Anaqua Springs where is the investigation....

Updated article with fresh links at the bottom.
It doesn't say he has officially closed the case though.

Sheriff Salazar said there could always be new evidence or information that emerges, but right now, nothing has presented itself that would lead to a criminal charge.

Questions still linger on anniversary of 2019 Anaqua Springs shooting deaths

Unfortunately, -most likely because of my location- I’m not able to read this article, not even with the help of outline.com . Very disappointing.
