I had previously thought that Routh was very mentally sick, but now I'm more to thinking that he is not and knew what he was doing.

I do think the MJ made him more phychotic whenever he would smoke. Years ago when I was in high school, I knew someone like him but not as bad. The guy I knew could not smoke pot because it made him nuts in the head. Our group of friends could not believe it at the time that someone had that kind of reaction to it.

So I do think this is his situation.

As far as legal basis, I dont know the rules.

If the guy knew it caused him to react crazily and yet he volunteered to smoke it anyway then is he still guilty or not.

Im glad I am not on this jury. this is a tough case.
It may be one of the few cases where I think mental illness really did come into play.

Just hope if they say not guilty due to mental issues, then hope he is forced into treatment for a long time. It should never be a free ticket out on the streets after gunning down someone. Because then he could just do it again.

Some of the photos of the defendent from back when he committed the murder, he doesnt look that crazy to me which goes to show you cant always spot phychotic people just from their looks.

He looked so normal looking guy in some of the photos.
The 2 people who were shot by him definitely noticed he was crazy in the head. Because they were talking to themselves about him. They were in a tough situation. Its too bad they didnt just call it off once they realized how bad he was. Hindsight is always 20/20 and they were just trying to help him so it was a tough situation for them. They probably kept thinking it may help him to go to the range.

When I go to the range, I do find it is a huge stress relief activity. It does wonders to relieve stress.

Today, the defendent looks much different and he looks scarier to me in the pictures of him in courtroom.

He should NeVER walk the streets again a free man whether in hospital for criminally insane or prison. Prison is what he deserves IMO.

I did not follow it so I cant even really say which way I would vote if on the jury.

If you are correct that the Prosecution proved he knew right from wrong at the time of shooting, then I believe you are correct that legally they should convict him of the murder.

And I also agree with you that he should never go free no matter which way the jury decides as far as mental illness. If the jury says he was mentally ill to the point he didnt know right from wrong, then he needs committed to a permanent facility.

I struggle a lot when thinking about the shooter of Ronald Reagan. Or was it John Lennon shooter. Maybe both shooters. I dont think its right that they end up getting out some day. Because if medicine is what it takes to keep them under control then who is to say they would just stop taking their medicine and kill again.

I've always struggled when thinking how some could use the insanity defense and some day get out. It just doesnt seem right at all. Luckily it is not very common anymore and I am so glad the courts have made it much harder to use that defense.

Do we have any legal experts on Texas law on this thread???????? According to tweets, Routh must be found innocent or guilty based on a preponderance of the evidence, not beyond a reasonable doubt. For some reason I thought that all criminal cases are decided on "beyond a reasonable doubt". Does anyone know why the difference?
