AUSTIN, Texas - The Austin Police Department is asking for the public's help in finding a missing two-month-old girl in East Austin.

Novah White, whose current well-being is unknown, was reported missing to APD on Dec. 8 just after 2:30 p.m.

Detectives are also looking for her parents, 29-year-old Kayla A’shon Washington and 35-year-old Samuel Travis White.

APD says that investigative details were delayed due to the family's lack of cooperation and that CPS investigators reported "significant concerns" for the child's parents due to drug use and domestic violence.

So, she's missing with her parents?

It’s not really clear:

APD said Washington's last known residence was in the 6400 block of Loyola Lane. Detectives are looking for both parents. APD confirmed to KVUE that at the last check, the residence was abandoned.

Officials believe Washington let White care for their other children, despite his history. APD said CPS has Washington's other children in custody but that she refuses to let CPS check on Novah's welfare.

She hasn't responded to APD detectives by phone or email. APD said the last contact they had with Novah's parents was earlier this month.

Were her other children already in APD custody before the baby’s birth?

So if I'm reading correctly she might not actually be missing it's just that authorities are unable to confirm her welfare?

No updates so far - I just checked. The best I can figure (so JMO) is that CPS took the other kids prior to Novah’s disappearance. Novah probably was permitted to go home with her mother after her birth and either CPS conducted a home visit and found the place abandoned or else someone requested a welfare check.

I hope the parents have just moved to another state to avoid CPS.

If the mother tested positive for drugs at time of the birth of Novah, she would have been tracked by CPS upon her release from the hospital with the child. Reminds me of the Baby Dylan Groves case in Otway, Ohio. (Just my opinion of what may be happening here)

AUSTIN (KXAN)– The Austin Police Department released information to help find an endangered baby who was reported missing Dec. 8, according to an APD news release.

Two-month-old Novah White was reported missing at approximately 2:40 p.m., Dec. 8 to APD, the release said. The current well-being of Novah was unknown as of Thursday.

Furthermore, police said investigative details were delayed, due to the family’s lack of cooperation.

APD was working to find Novah. But as it says above ^ the investigation was impeded by the family and their lack of cooperation. APD is now turning to the public for help - Smart Move IMO.

The thread title says 8 months. She is 2 months?

This not going to end well. If she is only 2 months old and no one has seen her since Dec. 8, chances are she is not with us anymore. I hope I am wrong. Why on earth was this baby released to the parents if they were known to have drug issues. She should have been placed with SS and then a foster family. This is so messed up. I don't think she had a chance. I hope I am completely wrong. Jmoo

Yes, Novah is two-months old, not eight.

Someone asked who reported her missing - CPS Special Investigator.

DEC 29

Former police officer and detective sergeant for 29 years, Betsy Smith, is sharing her thoughts on the two-month-old's disappearance.

“It's just a horrible, horrible situation and especially at this time of the year,” she said.

Her mother, 29-year-old Kayla A’shon Washington, has refused to let CPS check on Novah’s welfare and has not responded to APD detectives. Washington’s last known address was in the 6400 block of Loyola Lane.

“Sometimes what parents do, it’s sad but true but they sell their infants. So, we’ve got to look at that as well,” said Smith,

Since it took three weeks for the public to find out about Novah’s disappearance, we asked Smith in situations like this -- what is the proper protocol? She tells us not going public is a very typical way of handling this case because announcing it too soon could jeopardize the investigation.

Oh wow, I hadn't quite considered that they could have sold her. If they did and the person who "bought" her either wanted to get away with pretending it's their own baby for their own reasons (possible faked pregnancy) or have worse intentions for the baby, then they might be trying to keep her hidden and wouldn't want anyone to report her as the missing baby. If both parties are cooperating to keep her hidden then that could explain no leads which is something I had never even considered.

Kayla FB last post October 20:

Probably due to the mention of DV upthread making my eyes suspicious, but it almost looks like there's a big lump on Kayla's forehead in this picture to me. MOO. Maybe it's just the lighting:

yeah it's hard to say, but I think it could be a combo of the lighting, her position, AND the snapchat filter she used which tends to change the shape/color of your face/eyes a lot of times
