Three siblings in San Antonio, Tex., are facing charges after authorities say they neglected their 58-year-old mother and left her in squalor.

In a press conference at the time of their arrest, Salazar said that Martinez was found in "deplorable conditions." Salazar added that Martinez "had some health concerns, diabetes, other ongoing medical issues that necessitated her to be under hospice care at her home."
Deputies say they found her covered in bedsores with mold growing on parts of her body. She also had mobility and health issues that required hospice care.
Texas Mother Found in Filthy Home Had Mold Growing On Her Body Before She Died; 3 Adult Children Arrested
Patricia Martinez, 57, died on Saturday in a hospital in San Antonio - the seventh largest city in the country - after officials from Bexar County rescued her from her home on Thursday, according to a press release from the local sheriff's office on Monday.
When deputies came to the woman's aid last week after being notified by Adult Protective Services (APS), the incapacitated mother was discovered with an insect outbreak in her room and mold growing on her body. She was also suffering from kidney failure due to neglect.
'She was found wearing an adult diaper packed with feces in a dried state where it was physically causing infections in other parts of her body,' Bexar County Sheriff Javier Salazar told News 4 San Antonio on Friday.
APS, which responds to reports of known or suspected abuse or neglect, reported Martinez's deteriorating condition after they grew worried about 'a steep decline her level of health,' the sheriff added.

Sibling defendants Oscar Dominguez, 37, Roxanna Carrero, 24, and Pedro Luis Carrero, 18, allegedly knew how to care for Martinez.
“They all seem intelligent enough to know what was going on,” the sheriff said. “They all seem intelligent enough to know that what they did — or didn’t do — was wrong.”
The trio, who lived with their ailing mother, received training from the state on how to treat her as she experienced health challenges including diabetes, Salazar told reporters. The adult children divvied up their duties, including changing Martinez, feeding her, cleaning her, caring for her wounds, taking her to medical appointments, administering some of that medical care, and being the breadwinners, the sheriff said. The defendants even got equipment to track Martinez’s treatment and were shown how to administer it, he said.
“And by all accounts, they did none of it for quite some time,” Salazar said, regarding their mother’s hospice care.
