If the people of their own country don't care about them, why should WE?

I agree. We should pick out the worst people in every country and make them our role models.

Oh, wait. Too late.

Ah, yes, Boones Farm. What memories? (I loved the grape.) Did everyone have that or was it a Southern thing?

I really don't know if it is particular to us folk. Ahhh, I can hear the snap of the twist-off cap even as I post!

And elect them to high office! :silenced:

Then why bother with letting them pick their own meal? If the guards were really using it as an opportunity to "rub it in", wouldn't it be more effective to do it by feeding them gruel?

Heck, no. Much better to show them what they have deprived themselves of. Show them the very best that life has to offer - exactly what they have throw away.

I really don't think that message is being conveyed to death row inmates while they're eating that food. I think it's a consolation prize.

If the people of their own country don't care about them, why should WE?

The USA has poor people and poor hungry children we can feed HERE. Heck with the other countries. Who cares???? Not me!!!

We should care because they are kids, and kids can't feed/take care of themselves. Someone has to love them.
And on one of my first arguments on this thread I mentioned not only the starving people in other countries but here in America as well. I fully believe in taking care of the problems here before helping other countries, but I am tender-hearted and compassionate and would help anyone, any country, especially a child.
You may not care but I do.

My goodness, how can we NOT care about anyone of any age on the face of this Earth who does not have enough to eat?

Thank you. I have gained 60 ugly disgusting pounds since quitting drugs two years ago. I want my old body, energy, self-confidence, back. Without the drugs of course.

How proud you must be of yourself, though, for quitting drugs! I'm proud of you and I don't even know you!!!

I am proud, but it's an everyday struggle. Especially when looking at my weight gain! But thank you very much for your kind comments.

This man was executed today, he killed three people in a drug rage...Ok, so I know he could have asked for steak, lobster, many other high priced meals, but the amount of food this inmate was allowed to order was insane! He couldn't even eat it all!
There are starving people all over this world, millions here in America alone, and we are giving murderers free reign to any kind and/or amount of food they want?

http://www.wsbtv.com/news/13576211/detail.html
His last meal consisted of four fried pork chops, collard greens with boiled okra, fried corn, fried fatback, fried green tomatoes, corn bread, lemonade, a pint of strawberry ice cream and three glazed donuts. Prison officials said he ate about half of it.
(whole article at link)

i mean couldn't he have gotten a lot more that was a lot more expensive? i didn't read the whole thread - i'm lazy. its not like he ordered filet or wine or you know - the real expensive stuff. i say if we're going to punish them just don't give them a last meal at all unless we think they are really sorry for what they have done.

Again, what is fried fatback? I really need to know,in case I'm ever asked what I want for my last meal.I would hate that I did't choose fried fatback, because I didn't know what it is.That's just not right.

I believe fatback is a fatty piece of meat on a pig. It's mostly used to flavor stews or soups, tho there are a variety of ways people use it.

It's literally what it sounds like - the fat off of the back of a pig....fried. It is often used to flavor vegetables, but many Southerners love to eat it as is - it's like really really really fatty bacon kinda.

ohhhhhh .... ewwwww!

Thanks MagicRose99 and southcitymom for the info! So,wouldn't that be pork rinds? Probably pork rinds are more deep fried then the fried fatback? Oh well ...at least I know not what to order for my last meal. Thanks again!
